How to Use The Law of Reciprocity in Your Network Marketing Business and Life!
Did you know about the Law of reciprocity, let alone how it can affect your business, career and life?
Neither did we until we came across John Maxwell’s training!
In this post we are going to share with you what we have learnt, applied and how to use reciprocity in your network marketing business effectively. We share some personal experiences and even business experiences. So You too can start to see that change you desire.
Here is how it works! And No, it is not hocus pocus. 🙂 Or is it! Lets find out…
Ever felt an overwhelming desire to give back or help someone who has done for you or helped you do something, overcome something or get over something? This can be a good or not so good urge…? That feeling, the urge is known as the law of reciprocity. It is one of the most powerful ways to persuade others to take action without actually asking them outright!
The law of reciprocity is one of the many different persuasion techniques that you can use to influence others, your leads, subscribers, potential clients or even existing clients to buy more of your offers. But we are jumping ahead of ourselves here.

According to Wikipedia, The Law of Reciprocity:
“in social psychology refers to responding to another person’s kindness with kind treatment as you too have received from another. In other words its rewarding goodness with goodness.
If someone receives a gift for their birthday, a reciprocal expectation may influence them to do the same on the gift-giver’s birthday. This sense of future obligation associated with reciprocity makes it possible to build continuing relationships and exchanges.”

On the flip side, reciprocation to a negative action is usually harsher, and nastier, it’s called revenge…!
For your business; Reciprocity is the centre of the relationship of networking. But not every act of giving will be rewarded by the recipient. You might give someone a referral, that is a transaction, it may not necessarily bring you a return referral. BUT If you give without expecting an immediate return in your investment in the other person’s gain, your generosity shall be returned by others many times over and in many different ways.

So in business by providing referrals to others you will be providing a benefit in a roundabout way. This makes reciprocity a powerful tool in growing your business in the long run.
By Giving we mean; helping and supporting others achieve success. Actively volunteer to help people.

The law of reciprocity works in all aspects of life. This Particular post was with regards to network marketing 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!
Awesome Julie
I love giving without the expectation of receiving
Be blessed!
Thanks for posting all this information. I will have to go back through it and digest it all. I’m still so new to all of this, even though I’ve been working at it for 3 years….
Hey Olivia,
3 yr as is nothing compared to a lifetime of bliss fulfillment and living your life on purpose, right!
I love this Julie, if we all practiced it what a different world it would be. Can you imagine watching the nightly news and seeing more good news stories than the usual bad ones. Good for business and good for life in general.
You know what Kathleen,
I do imagine that every day, If more of us COULD THINK IT and Live our lives as close to our thoughts as we could, we can change our world 🙂

[ Smiles ] The Law of Reciprocity certainly works in business as well in our personal lives.
Lovely post!
It sure does Renard, and we are best placed to leverage it selflessly 🙂

Reciprocity is at the heart of blogging. Especially if you are just starting out. If you show some love to other bloggers and their blogs, then they will show you some love in return and pretty soon your blog is growing exponentially.
Thank you Dawn, we love your take on it esp. for Newbie bloggers. We truly believe they should listen to you.
And thanks for giving us some lovin! 🙂
~Julie Syl
Boom Boom Boom! There you go dropping knowledge bombs again.
This stuff works wonderfully.
I just wrapped up a full-blown product launch. It was the first time I’d launched with this list and I’d just been giving and adding value, when it came time to launch, they returned the favor in spades.
What’s that old saying? “Givers never lack.”
So true, so true.
Thanks for this post Julie.
Hey Daniel our man,
Whats up? Super excited for your product launch, Mad respect for that. Keep rocking and giving, for it truly is the greatest reward.
Indeed Givers never lack 🙂
~Julie Syl
I loved this post. What you invest in, provides a return!
Hello Leigh,
That it does And thanks for swinging by!
Network marketing is such a good way to promote your business, but planning is the key as you need to find the best resources to get yourself of top. Reciprocation plays a major role in network marketing and when people pacy back with kindness you get the rewards you expected!
Hi Lisa, a good way of looking at it. Reciprocity though doesnt always work that way. Its meant to be spontaneous and Non targeted.
But yes its great to receive kindness back from the people we help directly…do not focus your giving on that though!
Network marketing can be tricky but with the right team and the tools in place, it can be great. Thanks for sharing your message!
I’ve never completely looked into this, it all makes sense! It’s definitely going to do a lot of good in anyone’s business!
If applied Carol. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
I find I want to help someone else, who has helped me. On the flip-side, I don’t want to help anyone who just wants something with nothing in return.
Hmm its human nature isnt it Wren?
So flip that and start to give more without expectation…Generate that feeling of satisfaction from the giving and walk away with gratitude that you have the ability to help and you did…see what happens! 🙂
JulieSyl
This is true. You get what you give, you give what you get. 🙂
Spot on Czjai, thanks for swinging by 🙂
When you lead with a willingness to help, instead of take, people are more responsive. Everyone likes to surround themselves with those who give back. It’s contagious, even in business.
Exactly Cindy,
A willingness to help and give with a a heart of love and gratitude. It is so easy to say, and yet seems so hard for most humans. Its time we embrace giving as the door to our life and business success! 🙂
~JulieSyl
When we provide value consistently, it will always come back to us, sometimes even 10 fold. Thanks for sharing this Julie!
Always 10 fold Johan,
Patted shaken over and over flowing right! Thanks for stopping by bro! 🙂
Julesyl
Reciprocation is definitely something that you can use to your advantage. We don’t pay much attention to it’s marketing capabilities because it’s an act of kindness but it can definitely help grow your business.
Yes Elizabeth,
If we give freely in our Business, we get back. In Law we used to do Pro Bono work, where we offered FREE legal consultation and even services to clients on a Specific Morning of the week. No expectation at all and we didnt even know who would walk thru the office doors with what case. Why do you think lawyers do make lots of moolah 🙂
~Julesyl
Seek to always provide value and you will be rewarded. Thanks for the reminder Julie.
Yes Yes and Yes….add patience to that and we are done here 🙂 Thanks for dropping in Yemi 🙂
~ Julie Syl
This is great! I do believe this works to an extent. I think people generally want to repay kindness with kindness. I’ll keep this in mind when trying to network.
Hi Heather,
Reciprocity works every time. We just dont recognize when we receive a reciprocal kindness from a total stranger on a different playing field 🙂
Just keep doing good!
Julie
Julie, this is so true, some people do not take the time and read a blog to find out what they person is talking about and then they make a comment that does not necessarily apply. I like to read the whole blog or listen to the video to access the value that the person is giving. As usual, you are constantly, giving great value!
Hey Lorraine,
Thank You so very much for your chiming in¬
You are super fired up today. And we totally get it. Every week we visit hundreds of Blogs and either share or leave a great comment. You can see from our average blog comments we get back a proportion of it. YET Yes some people dont bother to read the post so they make irrelevant comments lol! Oh well, thats what the edit function is for right 🙂
~Julie
This post really got me thinking about the law of reciprocity and how it can impact my life!! I think that too often, we get caught up in our own lives and forget about giving back to others.
Yes Rebecca,
Every time I feel stuck, I go out purposely to give without expectation form the receiver of my gift of giving. It does open doors to us!
Thanks for stopping by!
Julie
Great post about reciprocity. Whether is business or personal, the Universe will always deliver what you put out 10 fold. Thank you for sharing.
Exactly Kenny,
We give we get, its that simple! Most people expect the getting from the person they gave though and thus generate negative emotion when the reciprocity doesnt come from the receiver. Thus blocking their blessing!
JUlie
Love this. Julie, you always give me food for thought. I’m a giver in all areas of life, but I have learned that some people you have to cut off. I think it’s the same in business. You may not always know how to do things in order to help others, but I’m a firm believer in spreading their message or products when possible.
Hello MomJonz,
We totally have to know who is welcome to our Table of Life so yes some guests must be turned away! 🙂
You are a giver and so you will get back patted down shaken over and over flowing …
JUlie
Did not know this, BUT did know about the whole “do good things and good things will come to you” thing. Learn somethin new everyday.
Hey Jenny,
Thanks for stopping by. And now you know just how much reciprocity can bring to your life and business! 🙂
