WHY JOURNAL – SHOULD A MOM OR DAD KEEP A JOURNAL? ?
This one is gonna be messy, I tell ya… But, before we do that…Can I tell’ya something? Well, no matter how often I got covered in poop, baby sick, or even blood…There were just as many times when my babies covered me in hugs and kisses and I just fell in love all over again with the essence of love that they are. And I was a late bloomer, so why journal?
Because I wanted to remember it all, every sloppy wet kiss, food covered hug, discovery hair pull. Don’t You? ??
That’s why I’m a huge advocate for parents journaling. Dr Miriam Sekandi will tell you, its therapeutic too, a release of some kind… ??
But thats not all there is to why I highly recommend why a mom should keep a journal….
Keeping track of what happens in your life on a daily basis might not seem important now, but when the kiddos are headed off to Uni and you’re feeling all empty-nesty, ?? you’ll appreciate being able to go back… Coz trust me I Do.
I started my jottings as I used to call them, when I would be alone as the child slept and I didnt know where to start with the chores.
So Instead I would just write what I thought needed doing…and read these days later and laugh out loud.
I didn’t start a gratitude journal until a few years ago as an entrepreneur. Having learnt this from Brendon Burchard’s High performance Habits.
I was truly amazed at how this one act of intentionally bringing thoughts of thankfulness for My Life in every way helped me refocus on what matters most in my life and business.
So much so I managed to get out of the habit of running down rabbit holes wasting time and being unproductive. To a resourceful, productive entrepreneur and Business Transformational Coach. The human I always admired and secretly dreamed I would become.
Journaling doesn’t have to be hard… I started with just store bought notebooks and diaries. But they didn’t fit my spec.
So, I created a proper Winning Planner and Journal, NOW on Amazon! ? #Boom
I suggest you don’t worry about spelling or grammar. You don’t have to be word perfect. All you need to be concerned with is getting those moments down on paper before you forget them…#LifeIsMadeOfMoments True Story! ?
Neither do you have to write in real time. If you have a memory that pops up and you never wrote it down, do it now. Consider using prompts to activate your memory and pull up some of those old thoughts and feelings that you may not have gotten a chance to memorialize… #ParenthoodIsAGift
I never imagined how fast my children would grow up. I miss the little baby snotty nosed kithies, cuddles and huggies. YET, I know I couldn’t keep them little forever. One day they’re going to be all grown up and they’ll leave me to follow their own divine path and life story. Those memories, though? They’re here to stay…IF YOU JOURNAL.
So why else should parents keep a Journal?
If you have a memory that pops up and you never wrote it down, do it now.
WHY SHOULD A MOM KEEP A JOURNAL – There is More!
Okay its not all about baby sick and memories. As a mom I should know, we must keep tabs on everything, we effectively become the home manager the minute we have our first child…aka Husbae 😉
There is so much to keep up with, if we dont keep track, we lose track and the rag!

Brain Dump – Why Journal
As a busy parent, your mind can be fully occupied on all kinds. This leads to a feeling of overwhelm as you’re faced with a bazillion things to do all day EVERY DAY. And you gotta run your business too…Lord have mercy!
My trick is a “Brain Dump.” I just write it all down in my journal.
I do it quickly no complicated words because, I just want to SEE it with my eyes. That way, I can SORT it out in priority of:
- Most Important and MUST be done today,
- Can wait, be deferred, not necessary or be delegated.
Along this path of least resistance, I found that I couldn’t find a planner and mom journal that met my quirky life, business, mindset and self care needs. So, I created one.
Introducing The Winning Planner.
The Winning Planner, a 2-in-1 90 Day Planner and Journal, available here in Red, Blue and Charcoal grey color choices.
- What I love about The Winning Planner is it is NOT dated, so Day #1 can be any day I chose or when I start a New Project that may run 2+ months or so.
- It can be used for any project I may be working on in a 90 day window
- It is 2-in-1 Journal and Planner and so I get to do my humble brags every time I complete a Task, while also allowing me to set priorities.
- My Will-Do List is very manageable set at only 3 Tasks Maximum a day. And I personally Set ONE MUST DO task a day and 2 nice to haves. And I am done. NO Overwhelm. That particular school bully was banned from my life.
- I get to care for my beautiful body as part of the Must Do tasks set out in the planner.
- And I get to Visualize, Affirm and Speak my truth daily. I Love this Tool and I am sure You will Love it too.
There is so much to keep up with, if we dont keep track, we lose track and the rag!
And now that you did a Brain dump here is the sorting you may find you do as a mom or dad who journals:??
- Meal Plans and Prep
- Cleaning Rota
- Shopping Lists
Why Journal – Self Therapy
When I am going through a tough day, my release is to journal. Write it all down, release it, let it go. I consciously do my best to mentally and spiritually release that thought, and feeling I dont want to feel anymore.
Including releasing the person or people who may have caused the situation that upsets me. That way I can Love them some more. Or let them go in peace.
I bet this is one of the main reasons moms keep journals, dont you?
Often times my journals just look like a bullet list of ideas or items. Sometimes I write a whole story, maybe I should publish! 😉
In fact I did Publish some in Journey Without Limits, which was all about confessions of an afro brit moma.
Other times, I’ll ask myself a question and do a quick meditation and Visualize the answers and journal them. so Journaling can be all about Solving Problems or challenges you are going through as a parent, mom, dad, corporate or entrepreneur.
So, are you still asking why Journal?
Well, keeping a diary and writing a journal is an ancient tradition that successful people have kept for centuries. Journals do help you keep track of events and life circumstances. While also helping you work through the challenges and problems.
If you are spiritual, you could keep a Prayer Journal, where you note your conversation with your Higher Consciousness, or God. Your Prayers, Supplications, pleas etc.
You can leave a gap under each prayer for Celebration and notes on when they are answered, i.e. when you manifest what you asked for or Got rid of the problem. Cool isn’t it?
For you the Business Owner, marketer, what You Track yob get to win At. You get to know what is working for your business growth, sales, results and can Scale up, duplicate and Multiply. And/Or even ditch what is a cash and resource drain.
Without records, you will never know. So A Planner and Journal is an ABSOLUTE MUST. ??
writing a journal is an ancient tradition that successful people have kept for centuries.

Journaling supports me in getting my ideas out there and think more clearly.
I keep journals for my children and have personal journals. I agree that they are invaluable for remembering life when we are in the trenches of parenting.
Yes Alexis,
So many memories, and with photo albums going out of fashion in favour of “The cloud” Journaling is a much easier and accessible way to keep memories at hand.
Jules
Journals are great ways to reflect on your day and understand better yourself and the actions you have taken in different situations. I used to have a journal years ago, but then life happened and I lost my free time of writing in it.
I agree! And I have also listened to a lot of podcasts with Brendon Burchard as well. This is another reason why I got into blogging as well.
Hello Alyx,
I am glad you are inspired to blog. Choose a Niche. is the one piece of advice I will share. If you wish to stand out 😉
I feel like having a journal can be great for self-care. It can help you to sort out your thoughts as well as your day. I recommend it as something to do on a regular basis for everyone.
Journaling Planner is very useful as I also use the similar ones. I cannot remember all things, specially when I run out of time. So to write downs things would be very helpful.
Hello Mijia,
Journaling is a life saver, downloading all thoughts both good and not so much, acknowledging and honoring them and Releasing those that dont serve you. Powerful technique.
I know so many moms who are into journaling. I just can’t keep one because I’m not good in organizing used stuff.
This is precisely why i went into blogging as writing keeps me sane. Thus i have to support journaling.
Yes, I totally agree with brain dumping! I love journaling and writing! I find it to be so relaxing
Yes Adriana Journaling clears the cobwebs for sure 🙂
Journaling can be so much fun. I do it sometimes when I need to clear my head.
Laura
hello Laura, glad you fund journaling fun too, I do it when i need to get out of my head 😉
I always have my journal with me everywhere I go because Journaling really helps me to be more organize, to help me doing my tasks and it is also helping me to remember something that I might forgot
Exactly Catherine. I am glad you shared that with us, We too love journaling 😉
I think journaling is INSANELY important if you or your loved one has anxiety or gets caught up in thinking too much. My husband personally keeps a journal of what he did that day because he has had a lot of concussions in the past and can’t remember too well a lot of things he has done. I think it’s smart and kind of fun to ask him what we did on THIS DAY 3 years ago!
Wow GiGi,
Your husband is super inspiring, to have to go through all that he does and keep upbeat. Journaling must truly help. Thanks for sharing with us your insights. Hope the little one is doing amazing xoxo.
Julie Syl
I think journaling is a great way to self-reflect and also to keep memories.
Yes Angela and I hope you will check out the Winning Planner 😉
Great post! I agree journaling is good for the soul! I think I have been a journaler since I could write, and have so much of my childrens lives documented. I love it and so do they! Sharing!
Hey Sylvia,
Glad we share both names and a love of Journaling 😉 Thanks for sharing! xoxo
Julie Syl
I agree. I wrote a similar post too years ago! Let us keep writing/typing people! They are treasures really.
I love writing Michael…One word = Energy! 🙂
I started to write on my journal since my grade school days and until now I keep on writing everything on it. Why? Because its my one way of expressing and relaxing myself from a very stressful days, recording my past and present and my bad and good memories.
You have summarized the sheer joy and value of Daily Journaling Gervin 🙂
Thats an amazing habit you have developed Gervin. Keep it up! 🙂
That was really another great way of keeping our precious moments with us. Great content, thanks for sharing..!
Thank you Geraline for stopping by 🙂
I have made some good use of planners when I needed them. But I have had a hard time with journaling. I will start it and then I will quit. I think I have had a lot more fun blogging than journalling.
It is an acquired taste Journaling,. But once mastered, yo will find it life changing David 🙂
Reflecting on my life I can see now why it would have been useful to keep a journal. However, even as a teenager I hated the idea of someone finding my journal and reading all my personal thoughts and feelings. I love the idea of a gratitude journal and want to explore that as a weekly or monthly option.
We get what we give out. If you believe your content is safe and secure it will be safe and secure.
I used to keep a diary back in the day… then slowly moved across to digital (Lotus Organizer… again back in the day)… then Evernote… kind of slipped out it the last few years. I might start up again.
Keeping an “Analogue” diary is also connecting energetically to your emotions and mission Owen. I would say revisit the practice.
My only issue with keeping a journal is consistency. I start out eagerly and then after two or three months, I rarely put in new entries. I know it is very helpful to keep a journal for whatever reason you need it for. I will try again soon.
Consistency is a muscle Annemarie. A habit, it must be grown and exercised to stick too. So keep trying and do it at a specific time every day, that way it becomes part of your natural day! 🙂
I love to journal! It really does help me release my stress. Its a great place to just let my emotions out!
Stress relief…a major reason why moms should journal daily, and dad’s too 🙂
Journals are really helpful to be honest. They allow you to express your thoughts and critically think as well.
Critically think, thats the word Brie 🙂
journals are good way to keep track of past events, so for parents there should be one journal for each member of the family. very good practice.
Thats another way of putting it Ogbugbu 🙂
Holiii !!
I have already written about 5 newspapers. I do not usually write every day, but when I do I write about five pages, more or less. Then I love to reread them.
Good day!!
Bwaahaaaa thats so funny, 5 Newspapers. Keep journaling 🙂
I have my bullet journal. Working in it is my favorite part of the day. I track my habits, food, mood, medicines, health etc in it. Also it’s a big support in managing my blog and writing ideas what I need to work on next.
Your Bullet journal sounds like a great resource Arun. Just like we love our Winning PLanner
I journal what happens(both the good and bad) , how I handled each situation and even my prayers. That way, I get back to read my journal later and it helps me know how to go about similar situations. A journal is definitely a life saver for me!
Hey Dalene
That is exactly why one must Journal and esp. if you are running a business. I specially love the Gratitude journal coz everyday we must have something to be grateful for for sure.
I think a journal is a great way to keep track of memories! Even if you only write one line a day (like I do), it still gives you something to look back on!
Exactly Maartje, and soon you start to enjoy and write more, download ideas, tips, processes and even projects.
I planned about doing this thing. But really too busy to do so.. I guess… But I really find it beneficial. Great content..?
🙂 🙂
