Don’t even talk about a Pinterest marketing course. We have to keep making changes to the course and sometimes scrap whole modules…As we think they are redundant with a new change…
Then Pinterest goes and reinstates the stuff. Anyways…this is not a rant-fest on Pinterest.
This is a snapshot of the cool stuff, Yup only what matters to you the entrepreneur. The rest can wait so…

What’s New on Pinterest in 7 Easy bites.
#1. Have you noticed that your ability to pin/save from your Boards has been restricted?
The thing is Pinterest likes to change things, restrict some and then reinstate the functionality. So, what I decided to do is just wait it out.
The powers that be at Pinterest said recently that we Pinners should NOT pin from our boards. It apparently affects how the pins land in the smart feed.
Rather, we’re to let others save what they find inspiring, funny, educational or they want to buy!
So, as a blogger, you should pin from your website or let others PIN from your boards. You can still pin through an app like Tailwind, which you can take a test drive FREE right here.
And talking of tailwind, did you tune in to the most talked about Facebook live in Pinterest fan land 2018? This was an interview between Tailwind’s Meredith with Pinterest head of Product Marketing Sarah Hoople Shere! Well you must do so. In that facebook live interview one of the best practices Sarah recommended for Content marketers was to use lots of hashtags on new pins! What?
Yes, I know, downright confusing, right?…Pinterest has frowned on hashtags for ages, like they want to be pretty different from Instagram. So, what gives?
From the interview, we gleaned the clear message that:
“If your content is seasonal e.g. travel, holidays, fast offers, not evergreen, then you can and should hashtag stuff your Pin description…Otherwise I would stick with no hashtags or just 2-3.”
We are watching this space…so keep popping over to check our update on this!
#2. New Hearts Showing up in Group Board Pins:
Again, this is just showing up in Group Boards and not in all group boards either. At the moment the speculation is: Pinterest is rolling these out for the Communities they are planning on rolling out soon. Some kind of communication method for group board contributors.
Pinterest is obviously trying to make it easier for people/fans to communicate. For instance, customers would communicate easier with vendors in group boards. Esp extremely busy ones.
The Heart is located just below a Pin and has the word “Reply” as its identifier. When I clicked on one “Reply”, it opened its own screen (not the usual comment box) and you can type a conversation. This can only mean good things…yes?
Understand that the New “Heart/reply” feature doesn’t show up for everybody. At the moment it is probably only open for activated accounts.
Pinterest is not returning “Likes” as we knew them, yet I guess it wanting to keep a finger in the “Social pot” as opposed to being “The Visual search engine” it is! We even share with you on how to leverage Pinterest for SEO.
#3. New Audience Insights Layout Under Analytics.
Okay some pinners have “Early Access” like we do, others still have the old-style analytics. If you don’t yet have the new layout, don’t panic. Pinterest lays things out in phases and usually makes a full release when users give a great response. Or stops it if users show great displeasure. Mind you Pinterest support is not very responsive so just be patient!
This is a very welcome development as the interest feature has been broken for yonks.
Pinterest powers say they’re rolling the new insights feature and layout in the a month or so. So, hang on to your bootstraps.
Now if you are new to Pinterest understand that you cannot access analytics and Insights if you have not “Claimed your site” and confirmed that you own it.
Once you do the above, Pinterest then lets you track your website traffic. Your profile image is added to any Pin that is saved from your website. Which in turn helps your content rank better on Pinterest and in other Search engines!
Pro Tip: New content is being boosted more. So, make sure you Pin “Fresh Content daily.” This could mean a New Pin image for an old post. Tweak that description and you have “fresh content” in the Pinterest algorithm.
#5. Whats new on Pinterest – Cumulative Pin statistics.
Well About time they came back. If you click on pin, you will notice some stats at the top as in image below.
It is my understanding that these statistics are for that Specific Pin on that board for last 30 days Or cumulatively if that Pin Image and Description are the same across various boards.
#6. Prominent Website URL and Location in new Lay out
Previously, our website url was displayed in a small greyed out font just under our Profile picture, just before the account description.
Now, the url is displayed bold larger and darker font to the left of the profile. This is very good for your blog/brand exposure. Hopefully more people who check you out to see if your brand resonates, get to click through to your website and find your amazing content and offers.
In the same breath, Location is Also More Prominent…for you the local traditional business owner, this is gold.
Inbound marketing will be easier for you on Pinterest and of course an increase in who follows you locally! Smack that Boom-wow already!
#7. The New Profile Portfolio layout.
We already focused a whole episode on this, you can learn more about it here.
But to compliment that, I believe that today Pinterest is focusing more on Brand Reach, Awareness and surprise, surprise…FOLLOWERS!
Yes followers, bear with….
Now while Pinterest at one time stated that its not about followers, rather about Search and reach, I feel that the bold addition of the number of followers in a “Prominent Red Button” tells me that they are encouraging Us to Bring in More of our friends, family, and fans.
On the other hand, Pinterest has completely (at time of publishing) removed your “following numbers” from your profile. It is pretty safe to say that they are focusing more on reach thus Who Follows you! Make sense?
Very Important: In this new push on followers, your profile is “Recommended” to potential followers based on your existing engaged follower type. Meaning if your followers are all over the place, that’s why you aren’t getting targeted traffic, followers or engagement on your website and offers!
So, yes Pinterest wants to grow the number of users via Your follower numbers. That way there are more people to show your awesome juice.
In theory this should help you gain new more targeted followers. Hurrah!
Final Words on What’s New on Pinterest
The whole New Pinterest Profile look and layout screams “Mobile User” optimized. Even the Desk top layout has the mobile or handheld look. (See image Below). We have a skinnier board and pin views.
This tells me that Pinterest is focused on the mobile experience, and they should well do considering that by their own research 80% of Pinterest’s users access it via their mobile app.
And if you were a BoardBooster User, sadly they shut down shop on 27th June 2018.
So, go check I case you need to process a refund and such! Below is an extract of the email they sent out to their users.
“Unfortunately, BoardBooster’s approach to pinning is no longer allowed. Our attempts to obtain the official partner status for BoardBooster did not work out, so it’s time to move on. We apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause to you! ”
Fortunately, you can create a Free TailWind account here and test it out for your automation efforts and keep your Pinterest traffic gravy flowing!
Or go for the PAYG option via PinPinterest. Whatever you chose, good luck to you.
With that said, it would be remiss of me to talk about Pinterest focus on followers and not invite you to Follow me on there. Go check out my Pinterest profile then click the red “Follow” button to follow me, simples! ?

Pinterest is a great resource. I wish they would stop being too uptight about things and create a better Customer service department. Treating customers like they are idiots is not smart with all the available choices people have.

Leigh Glad we agree, PInterest is a great platform and I believe they are now open to more followers as more people join the platform, more pinners to wow! 🙂

This is such a helpful break down of all the new features. I am useless when it comes to business and buy Pinterest so this was so helpful!
Hey Iya,
Pinterest has so far proven to be one of the biggest traffic providers and also versatile platforms. As a search engine its bar none the best to rank with!
Good to know Julie. I have finally become more active on Pinterest. I dig the ease of use over there too; Pinning helpful content to aligned boards literally takes a few seconds to do. So why not share helpful content and drive traffic to your blog through this medium?
Hey Ryan,
I LOVE Pinterest because of its ease of use and Ease of Ranking with it. No complicated stuff over there. I also cant help but share the good juice. At least once a month over here! 🙂 Good to see and hear from you bro and I am glad you are loving Pinterest too!
