Pinterest Algorithm Changes 2016– The Ultimate Guide on How they are Adversely Affecting your Blog Traffic & Sales; PLUS Solutions!
So maybe I wasn’t working smart enough…
Were we posting BORING stuff and thus our new pins aren’t appearing on the Pinterest Smart Feed anymore? Early February, Pinterest had an algorithm change, and our Pinterest traffic literally tanked overnight! I thought either we missed some Pinterest algorithm changes, Smart Feed updates or I was doing something wrong. I don’t like to jump on bandwagons of posting something before I test it out and see whats what. So I have been investigating and checking my Pinterest feed & analytics for just over 45 days.
I initially checked with the gods at Pinterest and didn’t get far apart from; some changes have been put in place you shouldn’t worry about it. Now for me that’s a red flag…I definitely started to dig a lil deeper and inquire from other Pinterest lovers and influencers whether these so called Pinterest algorithm changes were affecting them too?
So in this post I am sharing with you my findings on how the February 2016 Pinterest smartfeed changes are affecting your Pins and ultimately your blog traffic and conversion rates.
If you are on Pinterest for business, the only way to track your success is by opening or changing your existing account into a business account you can learn how to do that here!

10 Pinterest Algorithm Changes Affecting your Blog Traffic:
- Hand on my heart I have been advocating for Group Boards and pinning with influencers. This strategy has helped grow our Blog traffic via Pinterest, followers and most of all, my hunger to learn more about Pinterest. Well today I am sorry to say this strategy is on ICE at the moment. Group boards seem to have been hit the most with the early February Pinterest algorithm changes. We have been heavy group board pinners at the cost of our own boards…In fact you will find most of our boards have less than 500 pins. WHY? Because we were targeting our Pins to where the masses are; Group Boards!
This worked for us until Jan/Feb this year. I was checking our Analytics and noticed a drop in traffic, by loads. I had in fact increased our pinning . So I was surprised by the drop in stats. Like I said I got curious, thus my investigations and I can tell you that I also noted that our new pins on large group boards are completely not picking up any traction, WHY I wondered! Well….
- Chinese whispers were onto Pinterest changing re-pin counts to an aggregate of the re-pins across the board, instead of a count on each individual pin…What? In fact it was happening already, for some beta testers. My question then was; how does one track the success of a particular pin or lack of it? This to me smelt of the Twitter API change that saw people lose their tweets and re-tweet counts overnight! By the way you can re-activate your Twitter counts. We found a tool so use it while it’s still free here!
Watch The Video below for More Details on Effects of The February Pinterest Algorithm Changes to your Blog Traffic!
So now you know a wee more on what’s going on, below is more:
- Pinterest revealed that timing of pins esp. pinning large numbers at once doesn’t matter? Although it’s agreed by most Pinterest experts that scheduled pins don’t count as re-pins. So hang on to your auto-scheduler account for now, while keeping your ear to the ground!
- As you heard on the video above, your new pins are not pushed to the top of the newsfeed anymore, its taking a lot longer for them to appear if ever. So my advice is try and pin your seasonal content way in advance like you should have pinned your Easter giveaways, offers etc. by now, probably 3-4 weeks ago.
- Pinterest is retiring place boards to focus on putting lots of useful information about places right on the Pins. Before this, every place Pin had a little map on it. This is specific to travel related boards, and since I am a travel lover, I noticed the lil maps had disappeared from my place boards…What, I liked those to be honest!
- I thought something had gone wrong with our account…When I checked our boards and most had no descriptions. Like the Facebook Ghost that deleted groups Info! Like what the heck..! Spoke with another Pinner and she advised that it’s another of the Pinterest algorithm changes…Aaarrg. Many Pinterest boards’ descriptions spaces were empty…Still you can go back in and add a description, we did. Chances are Pinterest may remove them again time will tell…Its happening for some and not others so I don’t have a clue how they are picking whose description goes and whose stays! Watch that space.
Any Good News from this Pinterest Algorithm Update?
1- Of course there is. For mobiles you now got a new “Likes” board automatically added to your boards. A collection of your most current likes in one place, how cool is that! If you have never noticed, Login to your account via the Pinterest mobile app and you will notice it. Not yet activated for desktops, but I guess it’s only a matter of time.
2- In fact for mobile users, if they check your pin out, they get a popup asking them to follow you…Cool beans. Lots of people use their cellphones for Pinterest, and so I noticed an increase in new followers.
3- While usually any change gets ragged and is resisted, its human nature, in my view any change that will improve user experience and encourage quality content in my newsfeed is good. Granted at the moment we’re predominantly seeing our own stuff in Picked for you pins. I bet Pinterest is polishing this up…Curated feeds are nothing new to any Social Media business user. Quality content is king, means we gotta focus on delivering value content via the right size, HD images with text overlay & well optimised. Not just memes and cute kitties (we love em 🙂 ). So again connect with your target audience, follow your niche influencers, pin and engage with other people’s content in fact use the 60/40 rule. 60% your pins 40% other people’s pins. watch your following grow. Be part of a Pinterest Community we have a Pinterest Link Party every weekend at The Bloggers Pit Stop.
4- This could be debatable but one of the Pinterest algorithm changes is an addition of “picked for you pins” to your home feed, different and separate from those you follow! The thing is for most people, us inclusive it is showing our own stuff from our personal boards. Stuff we already pinned. It could be a message to re-pin these as they are popular maybe! I noticed that it’s mostly topics we follow. So maybe coz we optimized our boards. Note that Pinterest is now bending towards “Topics” so pick your topics wisely. Go back to your Pinterest account update by choosing the Topics you like and know your target audience likes too!
How to keep on top of the Pinterest Algorithm Changes and Keep getting traffic:
These Pinterest smart feed and Algorithm changes affected lots of people so much so Jill Levenhagen a Pinterest Strategist wrote an Open Letter to Pinterest on behalf of bloggers. And we agree with her indeed as affected small business owners and bloggers. In addition to that we are giving you some housekeeping to ensure your account, blog and business/brand stays on top of things and grows to boot. So…
- Make sure your Pinterest account is optimized for Search Engines by maximizing the 160 letter space. Include your Keywords and Vision its doable!
- Make sure your board titles and descriptions are Search Engine Optimized too. That way your content can still be found on search engines despite the Pinterest algorithm changes. Re-vamp your descriptions to include keywords related to the board topic.
Super tip: Add a Call to Action (CTA) to each board directing your audience to visit your blog include the URL of course on each and every one of your branded boards, see one of our boards description below.
- Get your boards in the order you want them to appear to your target audience, with your brand specific boards at the top. Or place your seasonal related boards at top and the Group boards at the bottom. I would go so far as to advise that you reduce your boards to those that are most visited. Any boards with less content or are older and you don’t pin on them often, turn them from public to secret until you build them up. No need to delete the pins.
- CANT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH the importance of Your Board Titles. Its how you are found frankly and some people will follow your board but not you! So ensure ten words dont overlap or go beyond the visible title area. Make em Short, Meaning full, and Precise for ease of search! If I want to see Gourmet Recipes, and you have a board with awesome recipes but you names it “Kimere” or “My private eats” or something weird like that who is gonna find that board? It wont appear on the search and you will hardly get followers, if it cannot be found its lost in translation simple!
- Pin your older, most re-pinned pins across YOUR other boards. Pins with lots of engagement are the ones showing up more in the new Pinterest feed. Keep circulating those pins to get blog traffic & leads. Also don’t just Pin from your popular site pages/posts, 40% + of the time find other people’s pins that have a large number of repins and pin them to your personal boards. Be a giving entrepinner.
- Super Tip: Bump up your pins in your own boards. Go to a specific pin, edit then move it to another of your boards. Then immediately move it back to the board it was on. Your pin gets bumped up hopefully. Do this with pins that have high re-pin counts. It also could help to boost the board and pin. DON’T DO THIS on someone else’s collaborative group board. Only boards you own BUT the pins can be anything you pinned, not just from your blog. My rule of thumb is I pin no more than 5-10 pins of one type to a board in one session. DO some other stuff and come back and pin to same board again later. This is for direct pinning though. If you are pinning the content to a secret board, it doesn’t matter, binge pin away.
- For now we’re focusing on our 5-10 blog posts attracting the most Pinterest traffic. Find these under your Pinterest analytics (See images below) only available on Business accounts. What are those posts topics? Optimize them by going to your Google Keyword planner update with long tailed keywords we showed you how to do this in our Email Marketing A/B Testing post read it now. Pin from those Boards and Posts more as they’re attracting for you blog traffic already.
- To rise above the pinterest algorithm changes, keep creating great value content impacting people’s needs and pains. Encourage your audience to share and ENGAGE, yes Ask a Question, Start a conversation…! Pinterest like Google (Remember it’s a Visual Search Engine) is favouring engagement and value content. Ask people to re-pin, like and comment on your pins. Respond to their comments and be sure to use keywords in your replies. Do unto others, so comment on other people’s pins, especially those with lots of engagement. Get people to tag others in your pins…
- Never try to keep on top of the Pinterest algorithm changes by buying followers. Neither are Follow for follow type followers any value. Both are non-engaged, non-interested followers and for the former they are usually fake. Bought followers are useless numbers. They are used as social proof by many bloggers. But, they just make it look like you have a lot of followers. Listen to this Podcast on why you shouldn’t participate in such events and why we wont ever again. It really wont help your brand long term. There are lots of bloggers out there who pay for followers. They think they are doing themselves a favor to get ahead, when all they are doing is setting themselves up for a huge fall in the long term.
- For now, don’t put much into pinning on large group boards with multitudes of collaborators, these are the most affected by the Feb Pinterest algorithm changes. Instead Pin your content on your own boards, then re-pin said pin on several others of your boards, thus showing that its valued content and of course get others to re-pin for you. You can Still pin on to smaller group boards with high engaged active users. And be a giving entre-pinner!

Periscope Trolls – They are ugly inside and outside, and they are cowards. Here are 5 Tips to Effectively Stop them!
Sheesh, we have kept shtum about Periscope Trolls for the longest. Biting the British upper-lip so to speak. But the silence has got to be broken today!
And No, I’m not talking about those fabled ugly green monsters hiding under a bridge waiting to jump you. Neither am I talking about the lovable Shrek-like creatures! Nope

These periscope trolls are human creatures akin to the ugly green monsters and with similar intent…to disrupt and cause you headache on your live Periscope broadcast, aptly named the Periscope trolls!
No one likes to be stalked on or offline. At least no one we know and yet there are some sad people online that feel its their job in their sad sick lives to stalk others online and be nasty as heck! Others simply follow you everywhere. I mean Periscope trolls who then follow you to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc!
Are you a scoper? Then you definitely want to check out our post on How to Rock Periscope for Lead generation and Grow your following and bank balance!
Back to the subject at hand…
These periscope trolls in our opinion really expose the ugly underbelly of the internet. This topic does underscore the power of social media on an entrepreneur’s life. It also explains why we take steps to tighten up security on our site. So if you left a comment on our blog posts and you cant find it, then chances are our super powerful site police blocked you. And unless we are close, we will never know. Yes we had got to a point where periscope trolls were actually visiting our site and leaving nasty comments. Fortunately all were caught before they went public and blocked!
So have you faced Periscope trolls or even blog trolls…Yes they do exist, they’re called spammers! Then you can relate…
I used to scope 6 days a week…I really enjoyed the live sharing of tips. You can . I would re-purpose the scopes into podcasts and even transcribe them into blog posts!
Then a series of things happened that made me stop in my tracks and literally decide to scope once a week. I didn’t want to stop scoping completely, but I must admit I was upset a lot. If you did catch my first post about Periscope Vs Blab, I did say periscope trolls are preventing lots of awesome content creators leveraging that live-streaming resource. Twitter needs to wake up and fix this!
One of these events was an attack of periscope trolls so bad it was impossible to scope on that particular day without getting an army of trolls attacking you, abusing you and being very crude. The security of scopers online should be an essential part of a social platform and Women Scopers are specially targeted. I decided to use blab.im more for future live-stream events. This has reinforced my preference for blab and yes you can follow me on Blam.im for future awesome live chats on serious topics that will help you build your organisation to a whole new level!
Christopher Elliot a social justice influencer did write a post about the effects of social media and twitter having a secret about you! We summised he had an attack of nasty web trolls or commenters. he very effectively dealt with them. Is it true that by agreeing to live-stream via the Twitter app we attract, are scrutinised and invaded by periscope trolls as part of the package? My answer is NO it shouldn’t be the case…Yet twitter lets it go on…
Please don’t shoot the messenger …
To be honest I am blessed, that I haven’t been faced with lots of Periscope trolls over the last 4 months and I have since learnt that it was a bug on Periscope that caused a replication of the attack…doesn’t make it better for the victims does it? Most of the participants on my Scopes are hungry for information. So they are mostly well-behaved, reasonable and polite. But every so often some periscope trolls do invite themselves to the party, and they can be extremely disruptive and scary for new, women or vulnerable broadcasters aka scopers!
Most of the time their attacks are vulgar, sometimes violent, spammy and sexually harassing comments. These miscreants are not who you want to expose your audience to.
Imagine if someone came into your open house event, in your home…Someone whose intentions are mean and evil. They start telling you to; “show them your boobs” call you a nigger, liar, idiot, etc. all kinds of nasty names! You ask them to behave, leave or mind their manners and other guests. They refuse to leave and they carry on like you didn’t say nothing! Many scopers ask these periscope trolls to mind their language and manners but they simply have none to be honest. They take the freedom of “free speech” to a whole new level, while enjoying your goodies in your own house…! They use language and such vulgar words like:
✓ You’re a nigger
✓ You’re a moron.
✓ Show us your boobs
✓ Let em puppies out…
✓ You are a stupid idiot
✓ Shut your face
And some things I cant even repeat on our website, lets keep it clean!
By the way these people are the typical school bullies and cowards!
So here is how to Demolish Periscope Trolls:
We know by now that Twitter sucks at dealing with periscope trolls. They know about these excuses for humans and do little about it so my friend its up to you to take measures to protect your self and your audience.
Show Periscope trolls the door by immediately blocking them period! I believe using Katch.me is a great way to enjoy troll free scopes. But that means someone already live-streamed the scope and sorted these online pervs for your pleasure. So what does one do on a Live scope?
Set your Ground Rules:
Before you start your scope or broadcasts on periscope, lay out the ground rules! Usually Periscope trolls like to bully people who seem to lack self confidence. So you could state that unless strictly necessary you wont be responding to live comments, rather you will respond to questions at the end as a lil Q & A session. But listeners can follow you, follow each other, share the scope, invite followers, tap away and give you lotsa heart loving and interact with each other…this can sort out lil silly lone trolls.
For nasty lone periscope trolls, let them know you are a not moved by them at all and will give as good as you get. You have no time for their crap…and that you will block them. If they wish to learn from you, fine, if not they best leave. Some of these people think that’s the way to behave on periscope so educate them. Wouldn’t that be a wonderful coup for the integral Periscope users, to turn a troll into a good cyber citizen…We can try huh! If they don’t stop & wont leave, simply follow the block sequence below.
Talking of Education, Because I have been scoping daily for 3 months strait. I have generated a good number of leads. I encourage you to Grab my Periscope Secrets Here Now! These will help you generate leads and Make sales Via Periscope! If Periscope can work for me, it can work for any body!
Block Nasty Scope Audience Members!
If you find that someone is being rude on your live broadcast, simply block the bastard! Click on their name/profile and click on block. It literally takes less than a second. But if you get an army of periscope trolls this can be a total distraction and be distressing. In the same way you can follow a user who is not only complimentary but adding value to your scope.
This is pretty effective for sorting solitary or sporadic trolls and I highly recommend doing this if they drop in during your live-stream.
To Stop Periscope Trolls Create Private Broadcasts:
I do this for private training and invite only those concerned. Its great for creating vlogs, for re-purposing as podcasts and have another copy saved outside of YouTube. So If you need to shoot a broadcast intended for a specific group of people, e.g. coaching clients; this is your solution to periscope trolls. Set up a private broadcast. To set up a private broadcast on Periscope, simply before you start your broadcast, click the “lock” icon located between the location icon and the chat icon. And you will see a screen as below
You can choose from the list of your followers who you wish to notify of your scope. Note that your broadcast won’t show up in the public watch list and only the followers you select will see it.
Stop Periscope Trolls: Broadcast on Follow Only Mode:
By enabling the follow only mode available in your settings you will reduce the troll problem to minimal. If you don’t follow many people your scopes could be lonely with this solution…but then again look at this like a YouTube Video and get on with it, I did for over 3 months! Only users that you follow will actually be able to comment in your live-stream. Web viewers and others can still join your live-stream and can even tap away and give you hearts, but they won’t be able to chat and abuse you if they are periscope trolls. Unless you inadvertently follow them, then they can invite their followers aka fellow trolls. You can stop this by blocking and un-follow.
To turn on the follow only mode setting, click the camera icon to start your broadcast and you’ll see the toggle to turn chat on for “everybody” or “only users you follow” as below!
Well good news and thanks to all my loyal scope followers who’ve given me over 132k hearts thus far, and have sent me messages asking why I am not scoping daily anymore! I am back ONCE A WEEK may be twice tops. With tangible juicy morsels that you can implement immediately, or Inspirational messages to help you get through the day. Some days are harder than others so a lil help from @Syl_julekalungi may be just what the doctor ordered for you.
So if you don’t follow me yet, absolutely do so right now, you don’t lose anything, yet could gain a whole lot. And lets show these periscope trolls what we are made of….
By the way TWEET THIS now, I truly appreciate you.
Like I said before, last month we implemented a few website tweaks and added a power plugin to help us keep the web trolls out the door, yes could be akin to censorship…but its all about keeping it clean for our audience! We also took steps to ensure they would not return.
And to quote Elliot we do make an effort for our awesome readers who support us with kind, constructive and awesome words of encouragement and appreciation, yet
“Commenting on this site is a privilege, not a right.”
Lots of New Periscope audience members if they see nasty, awful language on a scope, take tail and run never to be seen on your awesome broadcasts again. See most consumers wouldn’t want to be exposed to the vulgarity or ridicule dished out by Periscope trolls.
Periscope can be a powerful tool where we help people and attract consumers who may have nowhere to turn and thus desperately need our help. So if its constructive criticism, then by all means one has a right to express it, of course. But just not periscope trolls and definitely not on our broadcasts and definitely not on our website.
Enough on twitter trolls, I love to always end on a Positive note.
Something to have fun with on Periscope, Twitter has created some cool hashtags to use on scopes that create a visual image when someone heart bombs you!
They can all be used on one scope and you watch the fun esp. if it’s attended by active heart givers; or used on their own, enjoy
And…in this season of giving allow me to say no good deed goes unrewarded. So I wish you all an amazing Christmas and a wonderful New Year and I would love to end our posts this year with this old scouse or is it a Brit ditty on giving (sorry my vegetarian & vegan friends):
Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat.
Please put a penny in the old man’s hat
If you haven’t got a penny a halfpenny will do
If you haven’t got a halfpenny, God bless you!

We really don’t think so, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Yet many have been caught off-guard and that has affected your results…What are these social media marketing changes and how can we be better placed in the new year?
In this post we are going to share with you the changes we have noticed that have hit many a business owner and entrepreneur. If you take note you will make some tweaks and create better residual.
We dislike negative talk and that goes for negative posts…yet some information just has to be shared. So you have been warned this is not a sugar and spice update!
If you are following the trends and you should do if you leverage social media for your marketing purposes. You will notice several changes across social media platforms, have happened this last quarter of the year with Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and in Jan 2016 we await the new Google Penguin update…So listen closely and take a whiff of the social media marketing wind, you’ll realize something is up.
If you are reading this and need to keep up to date then we highly recommend you read our article on Free Twitter social share counts Demise, which we have sorted for our website. Our counts are back and that’s awesome. Learn how via image below if you too wish to reactivate your Twitter Counts!
Now that we’ve sorted your twitter social proof, let’s dissect the social media marketing changes beast…
Social Media Marketing Changes – The Twitter Slump and Social Shares Update:
Read Don Sturgill’s report on Why Twitter removed the social share counts and you will see Social media influencer’s responses to what happened on 21st October 2015 and its potential ripple effect on Twitter as a social media marketing resource. Here is the UNSURPRISING news; Twitter’s vehicle of choice for social share counts is Gnip, which costs a min of $3000/month starter package….What! Some serious money to a small business or new business owner. So not for the budget conscious marketer. And guess who recently acquired Gnip? Twitter of course…does anyone smell some poop here?
In our humble view, most low budget marketers won’t be able to afford the twitter counts via Gnip. Sadly nor should you be expecting free or low cost tweet counts soon!
Twitter’s changes aren’t stopping there, there is a huge possibility they may increase the number of characters from 140, a signature Twitter feature. Will this make it more attractive to users? Depends on how long that piece of content will be allowed on the newsfeed before it disappears into the nether. You can read more about this proposed change in the above article by Kurt Wagner.
Twitter jumped on the Live-stream bandwagon like Meerkat via Periscope and this has been a gravy train for some and a whole mystery for most. Why do we say that? Because for most its a mystery how to grow a following & make money via Periscope when you literally have to promote your scopes to your existing followers…! Yet there is a science behind periscope which we shared in a blog post before and our next post is going to take about the disgusting Periscope trolls and how to obliterate them!
Anyhow, these giants seem to work in tandem, so there is a ripple or knock on effect on other social media, better believe it…And that brings us to the Facebook Social Sharing aka Group Posting Changes and the Facebook Slaps that have been dished out over the last 3-4 weeks left and right.
Even integral marketers have had the slap for some weird reasons, we’ve had it twice it’s diabolical.
Social Media Marketing Changes – the Facebook Slap & Instagram Integration:
Of course you are aware that Facebook owns Instagram right? You also noticed that videos have become more popular on Facebook! Well Facebook has placed its spear on the Video Marketing battleground with a bang, we wrote a comprehensive post on Facebook Video Vs YouTube.
But something sneaky is going on in Instagram when linked to Facebook. Lately in order to auto share an Instagram update on Facebook, you have to re-authorize the app! At first we thought we were facing some kind of iOS security until we surveyed several other users that follow us! If you have more than 1 Insta-account and you more or less use the same gadget to update the 2+ you will have met this gremlin recently. And guess what also is happening, Facebook considers that spamming…What! So be careful of the Facebook slap that could be heading your way!
Now we all know that Facebook is now truly a pay-for-view platform…if you still think it’s a FREE SOCIAL Media you are sadly deluded. Just go check out your friend’s newsfeed who is on Facebook strictly for social purposes and you will notice they barely have any engagement…And yet Facebook told us at start of the year that they were making changes for the social user…you can read more about that in this article we published on Facebook algorithm changes.
And my oh my hasn’t Facebook dished them out lately…block after block; it’s forcing people to create new or multiple personas. We know several other people with multiple identities on Facebook, needs must!
So be sure to read this article if you still want to have not just your personal profile but your business page too! And if you wish to try out the Massplanner tool we highly recommend it. It is an integral part of our marketing and promotional arsenal so it takes the work out of social media sharing and traffic getting, you will also get tip offs on various social media marketing changes and how to work round them or make tweaks to maintain best practice!
DO NOT USE ANY KIND OF AUTO-POSTER TOOL ON FACEBOOK, ALSO BE VERY CAREFUL WITH TWITTER AS WELL!
Facebook is making new changes soon too which we reported via a Facebook update. They’re releasing a blog embed “Message me and chat” plugin. That plugin will link to a button on your FB profile that takes you LIVE to your wall…We are waiting with bated breath for this update…it definitely will come with something else we are sure.
Social Media Marketing Changes – Pinterest:
Visual beings that what we are and Pinterest as a visual marketing tool has also upped its ante. August 2015 saw changes to Pinterest and that weren’t generally too bad but still rubbed people the wrong way. Sadly lots of marketers disregard this marketing juggernaut. This is again social media marketing changes even though Pinterest creators likes to think of it as a Visual Search Engine rather than a social media platform!
We encourage you to follow us on Pinterest and you could be invited to our Pin tribe!
Pinterest introduced Rich Pins and also the Pinterest App where you can send pins to friends! You can use keyword #hashtags on Pinterest images and these are searchable via the new Guided Search another recent Pinterest update. And of course these tags are searchable via search engines. Super exciting. So if you optimize your images on Pinterest you are in business. We shared a monster blog post on Pinterest for Business with lots of resources for you.
If you are reading this and you haven’t yet started using Pinterest as part of your marketing arsenal, read our post on Pinterest for Business and Grab our FREE Downloadable Instant Access PDF Super Pinterest Hacks, while Its still free Now.
Back in 2014 a new update that wasn’t so exciting for many was made. When pinners pin your pins, in your notifications tab it shows that the user pinned a pin to their board. Meaning it takes you to their board and not actually what pin they pinned from you. A new update by Pinterest that lots of people didn’t like. But in our view this is a give and receive world. If someone pinned your pin, be happy, coz their audience can and will find your optimized rich pin on their board. Before this when you got a notification, you would be redirected to Your pin on their board…! But the update that had most Pinterest for business users upset was the change in the Pinterest Newsfeed! You can learn more about that in the updated Pinterest Feed Changes article by Liz Gumbinner of coolmompicks
So below are the Pinterest Social Media Marketing changes that affected Business Pinners:
Pinterest smart Feed
Pinterest as a Search Engine

We absolutely love how Pinterest has supported small businesses in amazing ways for a while, and still can for you if you learn how to leverage it. Social Media Marketing Changes are really more about monetizing and making money for the share holders via the big brands. Pony up and play is what all these giants are saying! Can we keep up…of course we can!
Social Media Marketing changes – LinkedIn:
While LinkedIn seemed the one happy place to go, since October 13th 2015 we feel it’s not as responsive as it could be because it did what the other giants did. Allowed everyone to create and spam groups then cried wolf.
Now LinkedIn is also listening but not taking the right action. The changes they made to groups haven’t improved engagement or stopped spam. What they did was group discussions no longer show up in search engine results…that’s poop! Spam and self serving discussions are still rampant.
In fact group admins have lost almost all tangible control of their groups. Many groups have disappeared completely…thats a weird one! Many LinkedIn group admins are truly pissed off by the October 2015 changes. Yet some people felt that they had become lil Hitlers blocking people left and right for imagined and real breach of rules (just like Facebook groups.) You might find Donna Serdula’s well researched post on Changes to LinkedIn Groups truly eye opening!
All groups are private, and some are actually unlisted…how you can find them is beyond us…! Unless invited by a 1st generation connection! Viveka von Rosen via Social Examiner gives you a visual run down on the LinkedIn changes and what they mean for the marketer.
Also you can’t really contact someone on LinkedIn unless you are directly connected in some way or know how to get round that! A pain for non techie or new users.
On a really positive note, recent upgrades to SlideShare made it a hot contender on the 2015 social platform. LinkedIn has really focused its energies on making SlideShare a traffic source for Professional presentations and content including videos. A fun way to showcase a SlideShare is to make a GIF of your presentation using GIF Deck. You can also embed a presentation into your post, this is ace link building see Slideshare below. We intend to use SlideShare more in the new year. So we encourage you to add it to your marketing arsenal in 2016 and we will keep you posted too.
You can and on SlideShare too and lets help you Leverage this awesome resource!
Social Media Marketing Changes – Google Penguin Update for SEO:
We did give you a heads up on the coming changes on Google SEO and included the resource to learn more. If you haven’t read that article please learn more about the Penguin update here right now and get prepared as this is essential for your website visibility, rank and optimization!
Clearly consumerism is at work here. Google Plus can’t get it together; each succeeding change makes it worse instead of better. Facebook already proved they are a pay-for-view platform. The one good we see is that now Groups have an App. Hmmmm, the masses have come, the entrepreneurs have set up shop now the Giants are about to extort their pound of flesh and grab billions in marketing & advertising cost…It seems like a natural play for monetization. Which makes Wall Street happy.
In conclusion though let’s remember the simple but highly effective Movie Who Moved My Cheese…Social Media Marketing changes are certain, somebody did move your cheese …BUT IT WAS FREE and we had it for years (Sorry if you just begun.)
So instead of worrying about why it was moved and who did it, it’s time to deal with it and go find some new free cheese, OR Pay to play. This is the essence of the Social Media Examiners’s Post and what Infuencers like Neil Patel said on Social Media Trends for 2015 post that has proven like a real magic ball! We believe 2016 wilL follow in this same spirit..more monetiztion to come and more pay per view to be expected in social media marketing changes 2016!
