Why You’re Struggling as an Entrepreneur and How You can Transition To Profitability Faster.
Have you thought about why you’re Struggling as an Entrepreneur, new to your business from employment? I bet you have not really thought about it this way and put things in perspective. Today I’m sharing my experiences and what I realised on improving your business, day-to-day, and overall life as a new entrepreneur, marketer, Sales rep, or Distributor.
I assume you know what you Want To Achieve in your business, right? I sure hope you do… Because if you dont.
That right there is the reason you are struggling as an entrepreneur and we are done here! Okay keep your hair on.
There you have it! Did you get Point #3? You will truly understand what this is about.
Be sure to get this audio and episode in the hands of your new teammates, they WILL thank you!
Okay, allow me to ask you a question:
Are you someone coming from employment to enterprise? Without any kind of preparation, research, set up?
This is usually common for:
- Direct selling reps,
- Network marketers,
- Majority of “home business owners” in MLM, literally 97%,
- And most bloggers.
Listen up, the change from employee to boss is A Journey… One that a person must prepare for, as the road is packed full of challenges; hills, set backs you name it!
The change from employee to boss is A Journey not a destination
Are You Here?
I dont know about you, but when we started in the Home Business space back in 2013, as the doer in the business, I was looking for that Quick Fix. Where was the turn key solution as they say in the corporate world?
The microwave route to our business success… Of course it wasn’t there!
Can you relate?
I didn’t ever think about my background as an ex-corporate. Albeit someone who was rusty sat at home for 2+ years, jobless.
Prior to the redundancy, I was someone who was used to being employed with WEEKLY and Monthly pay checks that came like clockwork. You too may be the same!
You follow systems that were already formed and working. Processes that had been created all you have to do is plug in…
In the beginning my zeal, my desperation, my hunger to succeed drove my actions and almost immediate success to 5 figures… Then the Company shut down and all the negative emotions I had felt prior to starting flooded back. 18 months down the road I was stuck as a bug in a spider’s web.
So, allow me to share with you why it may be difficult for you an employee, corporate, to build a business UNLESS you Change Your Mindset. Plus, how you approach enterprise.
Maybe it will inspire you and spark the growth flame you aspire to.
Why I Struggled as an Entrepreneur In the Beginning and you too Might be there, PLUS Solutions.
- Remember you are used to a Pay Check.
It comes to you whether you take time out, on holiday, sick pay etc. you get it. It’s a given as long as you have that employment contract and an integral employer.
Now as a business builder, Rep, Distributor, Home Business owner, you are the boss.
The buck stops with you. You create the opportunities to bring in the income or you don’t get paid, bills don’t get paid, your life becomes shit…Unless you have savings to tap into, OR a partner that supports your dream and Invests in your Existence as you build up the income.
Until this mind shift happens, you will always walk away from opportunities because the money isn’t coming in and remember those bills? Yup. So, you go look for a shift, a job, income etc. you QUIT.
2. Understand that You Need to Set aside somethings –
Others call it Sacrifice. I say it’s just postponing them to that time when your income aligns with your desires. I call it Self-denial, this is much kinder to your thought process, at least for me!
So many new marketers and distributors want to continue living the same life before business. In fact, most don’t see themselves as the investor in their Personal development, Business Development, Processes, Systems, Resources like Human resources, none of that…
The employee in you doesn’t see the business person in you at this point.
Because you too may have started with the mentality of:
I just want to make some money monthly and pay my bills…
So you don’t look beyond that. Tell me if you are a Rep, distributor, start up or blogger, isn’t that what you think?
See, it’s because your mind has not expanded to accommodate your new role.
In fact, when I first started all I wanted was at least $3,500/month… In other words my last employment gross pay check.
By the way you too can make 1K per month faster, if you know this.
What I didn’t factor in beyond the monthly auto-ship was investing in training, coaching, funnels, websites, attending marketing events, marketing etc.
As the business owner or Rep, you now are in charge of all these departments.
If you don’t address them or plan for them. You will find yourself short of funds. See with $3.5k minus taxes, minus the above expenses, there wouldn’t be anything left over to live. It wasn’t even enough to build the business.
Struggling as an Entrepreneur – CHANGE THIS
- I didn’t see myself as a leader, I was in “management mode,” so I micro managed my team…Of course they didn’t respond well. See, they saw themselves as “Business owners” even if they mostly didn’t do anything to build. My attempts to make them see it as more met blanks, ghosting and some downright told me to mind my business!
Can you relate if you are an upline building a team?
Well the solution is Learn How to lead, and its simple.
A leader goes ahead and shows the team the example.A leader goes ahead and shows the team the example. Make more sales, recruit more, Invest, in learning, Implement, teach the rest MULTIPLICATION and how they can DUPLICATE your actions. Simplify things. ~ Julie Syl
For instance:
- I learnt the 2 and 3-Step Set up and presenting.
- Edification was essential to my business growth, so I learnt it too.
- I learnt how to use Skype, Zoom, to communicate to more people.
- Focusing on 1- many as opposed to 1-1 sounded Smart, more leverage.
- I learnt more about Leverage and Attraction Marketing.
What are you Learning to grow int the leader you need to become to LEAD your team to Profitability?
- See most of us are conditioned to go to school get good grades and Get a Job. You have heard this before, yes?
Well, I am not bashing my education; I am pretty proud of my Degrees and that! Yet, when I stepped into business…well I was handicapped.
Because, nobody teaches us to get good grades and CREATE JOBS, aka enterprise. So, we have to find this education for ourselves.
We are taught to conform – i.e. Do not speak up unless spoken to.
We are taught Not to trust Strangers – hello anyone struggling with Prospecting? Yep, that hard lesson is your biggest barrier.
We are rewarded for being the same as everyone else…Report card yes? Well now your report card is your Bank balance. Is it A* or E-?
We know that Employment provides predictable income, YOU on the other hand can create an ever increasing Income month on month, or loose it all.
Which One will it be?
If you said Increase, you are my kind of human and I have a Time bound lovely message for you Right Here, that just might Change your Business and Life starting today.

There came a time when I was about to give up but I still went on and persisted. Great tips especially to those who needs it.
Yes Mommy Ruby,
We must stick with it if we are to eat the fruits of our Efforts 🙂
Jules
I’ve been through the journey and its a lot of hard work and struggle. What kept me going was love for what I do and the desire to be my own boss
And that is the story for most entrepreneurs until we allow Source to guide and path find for us Bindu! 😉
Jules
Being an entrepreneur definitely has its ups and downs that’s for sure. Definitely nothing like a traditional job so it takes so getting used to
Entrepreneurs hire Employees aka Jobbers to work so yes there is a difference. And both have their ups and downs wouldnt you say Courtney?
You points are amazing tips on overcoming entrepreneurial hardships. I dream to be an entrepreneur, yet yes the struggles are real.
Glad you got value Ainsley and yes you can make it.
Being an entrepreneur is not that easy but it couldn’t be that difficult too once we have learned the strategies and proper method.
Exactly Quin,
Like babies, we learn yet we keep beating up on us. That needs to stop. We must give us a chance to grow, develop and rise up to serve our markets as entrepreneurs. 🙂
Jules
Thanks for sharing these useful tips which will serve as an inspiration for wannabe entrepreneurs looking to make the mark.
You are welcome Kalyan, glad you see the value 🙂
Jules
Being an entrepreneur is very hard work, and I totally agree you have to change your mindset. You cannot expect to be successful if you’re staying in a negative state of mind. I also agree with we’re not taught to actually create opportunities for ourselves. We’re taught to make good grades and find a good job. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it sets limitations on what we can accomplish.
Heya Jennifer,
You hit the nail on the head…We are conditioned to Set limits and see ourselves as only fit for “Employment” once we leave school. Which is kinda counter productive since someone has to “Employ” us, so who will that be if we dont go thru our paces and become successful entrepreneurs? 😉
Jules
Some really great points here for sure. One thing that is a must is the mindset – it’s got to be right xx
That’s the juice Melanie 😉
What a great blog post! Being an entrepreneur is so worth it but of course, it comes with hard times. Your tips will make those times easier
Hey Lina,
Thank you and glad you see the bigger picture 😉 Challenges are meant to push us to WHo we are meant to be.
I definitely believe we all struggle in our careers at some point! These are great things to keep in mind.
Indeed Tonya,
we all meed some challenges and speed bumps heck some Kilimanjaro’s show up, yet, tis all part of the journey. And thats Okay.
Thanks for the tips. I’ll be putting a few of these to use for sure.
Glad you got value Margaret 🙂
Great post. Entrepreneurship takes a lot of dedication and hard work. you have to take on so many roles and be good at them.
It takes Learning and ACTION and both sound like hard work for most people Kevin.
This is the post I needed. I think the hardest part is often the mindset! Once you can get past that, anything is possible.
Hi Mona,
Mindset is something you need mentorship on, dont neglect that coz it can hold you back for yonks.
Transitioning into a more entrepreneurial life can definitely be difficult, if you’re not taking the right steps. Especially when you’re experiencing resistance and feel hopeless! These are great steps to get back on track.
Heya Emily,
entrepreneurial life is a journey that we are glad we took, and will never turn back. It has been a steep learning curve for sure.
I’d choose an increasing monthly income, too! Thanks for sharing your insights, Julie!
Go for it Czjai and you are welcome 🙂
Everyone dreams to be an entrepreneur but not many are prepared for the struggles. I love these tips. Having the right mind-set does play a big part.
Entrepreneurship is all about taking risks. Perseverance is key, having a good business plan, resources… are some of the prerequisites. Network Marketing is more risk-free.
You can say that again Shar. We would say “Calculated Researched risks” though! 😉
Entrepreneurship involves lot of struggles that’s true. But your article is a good eyeopener
mindset is so important especially when working for yourself. I’ve had the last three years to dig in and see what I can create, it’s been an interesting experience.
Hey Julie, we need to feature this post on our next Blogger’s Pit Stop:)
Kathleen
It’s been a challenge for me to become an entrepreneur. For some reason, I thought I’d breeze right thru the first years but that’s not been the case. I think I need to step back and find the areas I am struggling with and reevaluate how to proceed by using your tips.
I think being used to a steady paycheque is the biggest hurdle stopping people from pursuing their dreams and becoming entrepreneurs. It’s a leap of faith for sure!
thought-provoking indeed! No one understands the struggle of being an entrepreneur, The hardships are real, but there is always a smart way to overcome them.
We entrepreneurs actually understand the Challenges, thats why we shared 🙂
This is going to be so helpful for people struggling. Really helpful and thought provoking!
I always think it is so helpful to learn what other people have gone through. It helps all of us.
I appreciate this info so much! I’ve been having some struggles and can always use good advice!
It is sooo hard! Sometimes it is like i have the time for nothing else just work work work …thank you for the tips will keep all in my mind. Hope it will help me
These will help you when applied consistently Alessia!
I think one of the biggest misconceptions is differentiating between being an entrepreneur and working for yourself. A lot of people have created jobs for themselves but are not actually running a business. Two very different things.
Great post and so many truths! University taught me to be very theoretical (and I loved university for so many reasons!) but through starting my first business I learned so much about being an entrepreneur.
And I bet about life to Suchot 🙂
I too loved Uni, yet I know it also threw some chains at me! Glad I released them and me, am free!
Jules
Such a great and very informative post. We all struggle being an entrepreneur and these guide could help save those who are starting yet.
Being an entrepreneur is not so easy as people might think. It takes a lot of hours and hard work!
Been entreprenuer is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Takes a lot of patience and resilience but it can be done! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you stuck at it Brandy 🙂 Keep going
These are all very good points! It can be really hard to adjust to self employment, but it is so rewarding.
Ohh so rewarding Patricia, so lets stick to the task at hand by grace and know that Source has got our backs 😉
I agree.. A great mindset is always the key to success. Thanks for sharing such a great content.
These are great tips… everyone wants to be an entrepreneur but most people really have very little idea how to go about it!
Just point them over here Kate 😉 Thanks for stopping by!
Its always a dream to be an entrepreneur but yes the struggles are real. I believe that choosing a great mentor and focussing on the right mindset is equally important.
Yes Karen, Mentors are Essential, right mindset is everything.
Thanks for the fabulous tips! I’m always hustling with the blog trying to make money, but it doesn’t happen overnight and takes time!
Slow down with the Hustle and Tap into your Inner Boss, she knows every right step and is more than happy to guide you Kathleen 😉
A change in mindset is such an important step for new entrepreneurs. It can make the difference between success and failure.
Exactly Christa 🙂
It’s really hard to do business when one hasn’t practiced business. It’s truly a learning curve. You mentioned direct sales. I personally think direct sales is a perfect place for someone to start with no business experience. Nevertheless, starting a business is not for the faint of heart.
Direct Selling is a great model Nichelle, one that can set you on a path to extra abundance like you never imagined before. 🙂
Being an entrepreneur is definitely a lot of work. It’s completely worth it in the long run, but you have to be completely committed.
Commitment, we love that word Holly 🙂
It ALL starts in the mind. Honestly, entrepreneur or not. I believe we all can and DO manifest our futures. A mindset shift will always change the game
Indeed Kristian I agree too 😉
It definitely takes a lot of hard work and leadership to be successful as an entrepreneur.
It does take lots of ACTION, and Leadership of self to Lead others 🙂
Good point. Having the right mindset will absolutely get you to what you want to achieve in life as an entrepreneur.
Exactly Jen 🙂
very good and valid points.A goal and a right mindset is very important
Glad you agree sudipa 🙂
YES! Mindset is key. Your tips are SO good — especially about the vast changes between being employed and working for yourself. Great post!!
Hi Amanda, glad you got value and thanks for stopping by! 🙂
The right mindset is really important for actually absolutely anything….if you’re not clear about your ‘why’ & do not understand that it’s a marathon and not a sprint, success may come but would in all probability be shortlived.
– Nandita
Thats it Nandita,
Every one is running their own race whether sprinting or Taking the longer route with the scenery that comes with it.
Success means different things to different people as well. So some are truly seeking only short term gains.
My husband and I both work for ourselves. It was an adjustment. I think the hardest part was, and still is, not always having a consistent paycheck. It makes budgeting harder, but we love the freedom it gives us.
Ahh that Freedom Stephanie,
And I get you about the pay check. Yet at some point it will consistently be higher than your projections giving you an even more enhanced lifestyle.
Keep up the good work.
I absolutely understand when you say that most people have been conditioned to go to school and get good grades. But after that, what next?
That’s why it’s important for those already making it to be good mentors for upcoming entrepreneurs!
Thats the point Dalene,
We need more mentors who are up to speed with the growth of AI and the digital world for our new and upcoming graduates and young entrepreneurs.
I guess I had a more atypical path to my current LLC/blogging activities under it. I trained for my previous career only to find that the game/entire nature of that industry had changed drastically while I was in school, so I was unable to secure a long-term contract – and then had kids. So I literally had to start all over again from scratch, figuring out what I wanted to do and then how to build it. For those transitioning from a business to running their own business, though, these are totally sound tips to follow!
Hey Flossie,
Indeed everyone’s journey is unique. I am glad you did transition and agree with us 😉
Great points! The right mindset and expectations is VERY important. In my coaching, I find that entrepreneurs tend to fall into two camps when they struggle – expecting too much too quickly, and not believing in themselves enough (sometimes both). Overcoming these mentalities is HUGE.
Hi Amy-Lyn,
I am glad you agree and teach your clients the same. 🙂 Overcoming these challenges is what separates the average from the successful entrepreneurs.
Change in mindset is so simple to think but it is actually harder to do. Well, you have a point too and maybe this one separates the successful from the failures.
Change in Mindset is as simple as waking up and making a different decision Michael. Its like Smokers who think they need patches and tobacco Vapes to get off smoking. That doesn’t work, one simply needs to decide they dont need the smokes and stop.
Something that is rea is that we failed as the beginning and in the middle, but never at the end
Glad you made it Genny 🙂
Everyone loves the idea of being an entrepreneur but noone understands the struggles. These are some amazing tips with overcoming entrepreneurial hardships.
Indeed Adriana and we who care are obligated to share and shine the light to others can cut their journeys shorter!
