My client was not in a good place, she had just received a ton of abuse from a supposed “facebook friend,” (term used very loosely,) that had somehow hit home! She came to me with a simple question: Syl, you seem to have it together, how do I also create Social Media success and not attract such nastiness?

You see, I too have been where she is, lets call her Jody and for the longest time I wondered how some people seemed to have the Midas touch when it came to social media! They have the likes, shares, engagement, everyone seems to love them and literally lap up what they say!

I set about finding out how they did it and I recently shared some of that juice on the Facebook algorithm post!

You see, anyone can get a ton of likes, comments and even traffic to their offers and create success in their business on or offline with social media? In this digital era, your Social media Success in key to your business success as well! And to do this you gotta become an “Influencer” in a specific area! 

If you are a coach, blogger, internet marketer, business owner, you already know exactly how important social media is to your business reach and growth.

Truth be told, every day a new social media or networking portal pops up and everybody jumps on its bandwagon. Anyone remember Su, empire, Hi5? Yup me neither lol!

Yet true “Social Media success” lies in choosing a platform, Mastering it’s nuances and teaching others how to…Kay we are done here! 😉

Alright on  serious note, in today’s episode, I am gonna break it down in very simple steps, Keeping It Simple Syl (K.I.S.S).

How you too can have Social Media Success with a Focus on just 1-2 platforms.

In our case, Pinterest and Facebook. You could choose LinkedIn, Google plus, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat etc. Man the world is your oyster, and you dont even know just how much!  

I know, you have information overload with various research, training, freemium this and that, which is supposed to prove how easy it is.

I also know that for many, the shine of social media has worn off a little bit just because what happens there is typically not the way it was portrayed in the beginning!

AND not all businesses are a good fit for social media success, so keep that in mind.

At this point, can I caution you that: nothing about marketing on social media is ever a sure thing, even though many times it’s positioned as that! Avoid being fooled by what you read, and take it all with a grain of salt. Don’t fall for the new shiny object syndrome.

Your Social Media Success Blueprint in 3 Steps! 

#1. Keep Postured:

One thing about building social media influence is, you will find that tons of people have an opinion about your shares and will happily give you feedback. Which to be honest you wanted in the first place, right?…Just not the negative ones! Does a dog love flees lol! 

If someone writes something offensive or blasts your marketing, brand or product, do not let it get to you. Instead of getting defensive, embrace the negativity because negative feedback is, after all still feedback! AND it is engagement right!

So, here is what I do…

I ask myself:

• Is there something I can improve to make that person’s life better?
• Does the comment warrant a reply from me? Esp. if it’s not just negative (then that’s another story) but always be professional.

Many times a negative response is a Cry for Help! 

You’ll find all kinds of people on the internet esp. on social media! And trust me if you are good at what you do, you will attract the web trolls and some will hurl insults at you just because they can.

Understand that you cannot be all things to people and you should never try, so just stick to your mission! You got a mission why you are on social media, right? 

Mine is simple – I Post on Purpose to: Educate, Empower, Entertain and in Turn  Grow too in All areas of my life! 

Naturally, you don’t want negative press anywhere, yet sometimes it can actually help your cause if you play it right.

Like I always say, stay positive and remember that it’s just THEIR opinion. So how you react or NOT is the important piece of the puzzle. Social media users will help to develop your reputation, and you have to ensure that it’s overall a positive one.

#2. Be Your own Brand Ambassador First:

This is how you will attract others from social media!

Understand that, sometimes the more work you put into monetizing your website, product or service, the worse your consumer experience could be. More so when you use social media to build that success!

WHY?

Well, if your only goal is getting people to give you money, it comes across as salesy, spammy, insensitive!

Now understand that I long stepped away from the above attitude, even though in the beginning all I cared about was the money…most of us homo sapiens do! Yes even you, so get off that high horse…

Here is what I have learnt to do over the last 5 years of building our business and recommend you could do instead!

I became the product of the product, i.e. I use  or have implemented what I recommend, and I can give an integral user’s recommendation!

Thus, it is best to come from a place of “Putting others first” and serve them, that’s the only way you too will get served! 

Not only do you need to build trust with them, you continuously provide value. This will lead your audience to believe you’re definitely the real McCoy. To have Social media success, you must learn to Keep your audience and individual people in mind, this will help you in tailoring your marketing and solutions to them.

#3. Prepare for the Challenges of Social Media Success.

Part of the journey to building your social media success and influence is your acceptance that some things will not go smoothly or as planned! Your attitude is everything here, how you handle challenges, how you face the Goliath’s in your life will determine your success.

You could post something and someone thinks its about them…In fact, Most people think It is about THEM and it is! You dont post for you! 

One day, I posted an “image quote” and someone blatantly said it was their quote. I knew it wasn’t because it came from a book I was reading. I had created the image via Canva with a photo I had taken myself off my phone… And yet that happened. I gifted them the quote lol…! They were excited, and shared it everywhere…Including my website link, potential crisis solved…Free brand exposure! Bingo.  🙂 

So, Social media can make you a fortune, or it can be the worst thing, in your life…whatever you think of it, you are right!   

Please understand that this is the best place to Literally STEP INTO the Person you wish to become! To lead and build up a follower base of loyal fans. Do not attempt to be Disingenuous or Unintegral!

That’s NOT WHAT I am suggesting you do.

What I am saying is “Act As If… Project Until you become that person in your dreams“!

It is when you are trying to be someone you aren’t and you keep questioning your own motives, that will cause trepidation among others as they will see through you! And that is not your goal.

It’s a fact of internet life and business that not everyone who has possession of your products will have paid for it…Yes I am talking about copy cats! 

I had a man reach out on facebook inquiring about our Pinterest Course from a PDF we sell for under $10. He said he had found it on social media. When asked for a copy as we weren’t aware of him as a customer, he happily sent it and guess what, it was a bootleg copy of our product! 

The “Copy cat” had forgotten to remove our Links.  We made two £297 sales from it. The guy who reached out said he had bought the PDF  for $5…!  

 

So what do you do in such a situation? 

The best thing you can do is go with the flow of things and move on. UNLESS YOU COPYRIGHTED the product or service!

This really has nothing to do with the point of this article other than it’s typical of social media. Lots of people want to “Be Like You when they grow up..whatever that means! So many will clone your work, copy your style and even steal your work lol!

Deal with it already…in fact, that’s one of the signs you are succeeding! 

When you really understand your niche, then you’ll know who these people are and can talk to them in their language.
