Here is Why those High Pinterest Monthly Views aren’t Useful Until…
She came to me in a state of pure excitement, way Syl I got me 30,000 monthly views on Pinterest, so what do I do to turn those into sales? I was excited for her, yet I also had to be the one to burst her bubble…gah! ☹
Have you also noticed you have some serious numbers in your Pinterest monthly viewers? So you wonder:
? How come my sales aren’t any better?
? And what do monthly viewers really mean for my business?
Well, I too was asking these questions moons ago when they first showed up in the new Pinterest layout.
So, I went to work looking for answers as you do and I have got it all together in this post!
Imagine I have some clients with hundreds of thousands of monthly views and they too ask: Why don’t these views translate into, website visits and sales? Are you missing something Jules? After all we are on Pinterest to serve more people, make more sales and increase income. It’s a business right?
I’m like, hold your horses Jose… And knowing that a question by one is usually a pain for many…I decided to share in this Episode what Pinterest Monthly Views mean for your website and business.
Are Pinterest Monthly Views a waste?
Let’s first agree that your monthly views on pinterest are indeed useless unless you know how to Serve those people so they stick around, share your content s’more and Take Action. That is Click through and subscribe and/or buy.
In today’s training I am going to share with you how to turn those views into bank!
#1. ? Is Your Account Niched?
In other words, is it Focused in a specific area? In order to be focused you have to know what your Audience really wants and you give it to them. Sounds simple doesn’t it? Well, because It actually is. Only most people aren’t patient enough to get the audience to the party.
When I first started on Pinterest, I had boards about anything that caught my fancy. When I started blogging, I just carried on pinning into any old board with no strategy.
Then I stumbled across a course on how to create Pinterest assets that pay…and I never looked back. So much so I created a resource for you to help you do that. The Pinterest domination Blueprint 101
Often times, I see people’s boards with no theme. No clear idea what their account is about. The profile description doesn’t help either and I feel sad. Even if that person has a gazillion monthly views, they aren’t targeted enough to make bank.
Let me share an example of a targeted profile and boards.
You love travel, you have been to various destinations and had a multitude of experiences. So, you created various boards on all things travel. You fill those boards with content related to travel, popular, trending, fun, destination guides, how to’s, practical tips etc. You use relevant Hashtags on your own Pins and point people to where to find more juice…
What this does is you will attract viewers and pinners who love travel and are looking to curate travel experiences. This will bump up your Pinterest monthly viewers.
Note that I mention that YOU POINT PEOPLE to where they can learn more. And if you FOCUS on Serving your audience as opposed to “Pitching them” you will get some true Fans and they will share your value, subscribe and buy.
If all you do is share other people’s popular content and you do not populate your Boards with YOUR OWN Value content. Or if your content is NOT enough so your viewers are ALWAYS clicking through to all those other third party sites whose pins and content you share…Well that’s why you have a ton of monthly views and not enough Cash in the till!
Pretty pointless if you ask me…
? Solution: Pin more of your own content to your boards. Use a ratio of 70/30 that is 70% your Content 30% 3rd party content. Meaning you gotta go out there and create content, that your audience will fall in love with. Create content that answers their questions, gives them solutions, gets them closer to their desires, makes them laugh out loud and share with their mates. Give them a sneak peek into your back end, be vulnerable. Content that is just for them.
To do this go scope out what your more successful competition is doing, how, what, where. Model that strategy in your content creation or curation.
Then, use an auto scheduling tool like Tailwind to keep your content fresh and on top of your boards. Take your 30 days Free Test drive of Tailwind here!
Brings me to my next tip…
#2. ? Join Tailwind Tribes in your Niche
Tribes will help you increase eyeballs on your content above and offers therein. Expand your share and follower base and the right VIEWS to that Content. Be a giver in that space and your popularity rating skyrockets.
To find Tribes to join, you have to be on Tailwind first of all.
Then you type your Niche in the tailwind search bar and Click on Tribes. Apply to the tribe you wish to be added to and wait to see if you are. I would go for at least 2-3 Tribes that I would be active in.
What this will do is increase your Pin views even more and Your click through traffic will also start to increase. If your offers are congruent with your Pinterest Set up, you will get subscribers, return traffic and Sales…#Kerching!
For details on how to leverage Tailwind and get accepted fast in your chosen Tribes read my Article on Pinterest for network marketing.
#3. ? Taylor and Curate Content for Your Audience
Okay I’m not saying do not share third party content and other stuff you love and like. What I am saying is, you are on Business to Increase your revenue by serving your audience’s needs. So, stand in that authority by sharing MORE of your own content.
To do this, curate and create content that your audience loves, You already have an idea what that is through you “Monthly Views” i.e. the popular vote. Those popular pins you added to your boards? Go check out what they share, how they share it…i.e. your audience’s language…
Now, go serve those people who keep coming to your boards because you have content they like. Via your own content or Products, if yours is an eCommerce store. By the way you need to check out that episode if you want to crush it on Pinterest with eCommerce.
As a business owner you hopefully know your business, right? You know your offer, the right niche, your audience, your ideal customer and you really need to focus on them.
We at Kalungi Group for instance clearly do pinterest marketing training. We have set up boards on Pinterest marketing. Also, we have boards on Internet/online marketing, personal branding, home business success, all of which tie in well with Pinterest marketing.
I know our audience are marketers, business owners, brands, many of them just starting out and possibly home workers.
So, I also mix in DIY Boards, Happy Style, Mom blogger boards…get the picture?
The names and descriptions on these boards are our Blog Categories, to cater to the Pinterest SEO functionality! And Bob’s deffo your uncle! ?
inspire them to not just browse, but also to click through, to Share and to Buy!
The above steps showcase knowledge of my audience and what interests them! My aim is to inspire them to not just browse, but also to click through, to Share and to Buy!
I know that I’m offering more value to my audience. So, if I suddenly have cute cats, kids’ clothes, techie photography, recipes etc etc…However varied that may make me look, it also confuses my audience!
Also, most of the content on those Boards would be, third party content and however many views they get, they will not translate into click throughs for our brand. Despite being popular, my account would be UNFOCUSED.
Not my jam! WHY?
Because I am all about SERVICE ON PURPOSE and that goes with: targeted viewers even if they are lower in number. People who will click on our own content, which is the whole point of investing time and resources on the platform.
? SOLUTION: If you have untargeted boards that are full of other people’s pins and you aren’t sure if they are a fit for your brand! I suggest you make them secret, cleanse them, add a load of your pins over say 2 weeks.
Delete any non-performing pins that never got much attention from your viewers. Whatever you Pin to these boards in that time, make sure it is with your audience in mind and focus on SERVICE not the Popular pinterest monthly views just because it makes you look popular.
Republish the Board and keep pinning value pins going forward. See you views increase yet be MORE targeted and will eventually bring in those much-coveted sales.
Delete any non-performing pins that never got much attention from your viewers.
#4. ? To go Rich Pins or Not?
Back story, a recent client experience. She was all about NO rich pins, she said she had disabled them and had no intention of re-applying for rich pins. As a food blogger we knew rich pins could help increase her audience, traffic and sales. So, we kept encouraging her to go Rich. We asked her to observe her actions as a Pinterest user…
She then started to notice a personal habit. Every time she was on Pinterest as a user:
She would skip over pins that didn’t have viewable ingredients under the pin. This is a rich pin functionality. She preferred to scan scan the ingredients before she chose that recipe. So, she realised that other users are more likely to choose your pin and visit your site if you have rich pins enabled!
Rich pins give you a star rating…Bingo
So now we didn’t need to convince her to re-apply for Rich pins to increase her brand presence on Pinterest. Her own user habit and experience did it.
More TARGETED monthly viewers to her website just like her! Those Pinterest monthly views can translate into traffic and sales for sure with use of Rich Pins! Quality over quantity, right?
Those Pinterest monthly views can translate into traffic and salesTo Turn those pinterest monthly views into Traffic you need a Plan and a Strategy to serve these eyeballs and we created The Winning Planner to help you do just that.
What I like most about the planner is the DAILY, WEEKLY, MONTHLY, QUARTERLY reviews, and self care options. It is also UNDATED, so Day #1 can be any day of the month/year you choose! Making Project management pure fun.
It is available in a variety of collections and colors with all the tools you need to Stay on Course; 127 white pages on top-quality paper. Definitely I am super excited for you getting your hands on one or 3, do so here!
Also, do check out the Interview Kathleen Ahern of Blogger’s Lifestyle did with the Author of The Winning Planner…Very insightful.
Pinterest Monthly Views – We Lovem
Think about it, if someone stumbles on your account, they decide to follow you, its because they know exactly the kind of content, they’re going to expect from you as a food blogger or whatever you promote!
So that’s extremely important. Now, go and have a look at your boards. If you aren’t yet Rich Pin enabled, apply for it! Only available to Business Accounts so do that if yours is a personal account.
You will see a real traffic increase, not filler traffic and your followers will increase, which is super important on Pinterest today!
The more followers you have, who are tuned into your content, the higher the engagement with it. Spreading it to their network thus more eye balls! More eyeballs if Targeted = more subscribers and/or sales.
I hope this was super helpful, and if you’d like some more support, I rolled out my revamped and Updated Ultimate pinterest Roadmap, that is here for your success and I am so excited that you can get your hands on that!

I have been using Pinterest since last month only and thinking of investing in tailwind to manage pinning regularly. Your tips are great and I am looking forward to investing more time on my pinterest account and also create rich pins.
Absolutely Invest in Tailwind Anjali, take a Free test drive of it and see how that works for your brand. Glad you got value! 🙂

I have Pinterest account but i really don’t use it. This is a good guide. I guess it’s time to revisit my account..thanks
Yes it is Aia 🙂
Great post Julie and thank you for continuing to educate us on this powerful platform.
Great advice, especially when you mention the section about having a niche. Your words, ” In order to be focused you have to know what your Audience really wants and you give it to them, ” are very accurate.
Glad you agree with my synopsis Elle, That statement is the Essence of successful marketing! 🙂
JSyl
This makes so much sense. I’ve been trying to figure Pinterest out forever now. Will take these tips and use them on my own page! Thank you for sharing!
You are welcome Angie, enjoy 🙂
thanks for this great advice. I am going to use them for my Pinterest account. Thanks for this useful article
You are most welcome Elizabeth 🙂
Great tips here. I am very into Pinterest at the moment and it is bringing my blog more traffic everyday.
I’m always confused about Pinterest marketing, your blog helps me a lot in solving some of my doubts. Thanks for sharing it, I’ll surely implement your tips to generate sales and engage more visitors.
This is really great advice. Categorizing your boards make your Pinterest profile a lot more attractive. Thanks for sharing this.
I always joke that I really wish my pinterest monthly views were my blog monthly views. Currently I am a 1.4 Million views on pinterest, and I am noticing an increase in blog views but nowhere near that amount.
I’m not concerned with how many people are seeing my pins if they aren’t clicking or sharing them. I want ACTION for all my work creating posts and time spent pinning. I want people sharing my content and taking their buns over to my blog.
This is a great way to learn how to grow pinterest followers, thank you!
You’re welcome Mickal 🙂
These are some great spot-on points!! Rich pins are a must and using Tailwind helps with exposure and monthly views for sure
Thats the juice on one Claire 🙂
This all makes so much sense! I need to make some Pinterest strategy changes to maximize results!
Yes you do Shannan 🙂
You are right that monthly pinterest views doesn’t always translate to actual blog views. It’s all well and good having a pin loads of people see but it needs to be clickworthy for people to want to read your post x
This is a great read! I am always looking for ways to increase my Pinterest following.
Hmm.. I’m still on the fence about the ridiculously rich pins…. I try to include a synopsis of what the article will teach them to help them want to click it, lol. I haven’t really gotten a lot of traction on pinterest (a lot of views but not a lot of clickthrough) regardless to following everyone’s advice and doing everything you have listed here. Maybe it’s just a matter of time. Not sure.
Amy
How often do you Pin from your Own Website? Whats your ratio of Your own Pins Vs Other curated Pins a Day?
If you are part of a syndication Group, then you will be pinning a ton of Confusing pins unless you create a Board for all kinds and pin the general stuff there and only pin a content to your Branded boards if it aligns with that category!
Sometimes VA are a cause for Your pinterest to drag out as they pin wherever. So keep an eye on them!
And WHY WOULD YOU FOLLOW EVERYONE’s ADVICE? Find your Sensei/teacher/Coach/Expert, that person whose Pinterest advice you trust more than others. Chances are They Have a Course. This is good to know! My monthly views dipped a little and I got worried; I feel a little more at ease now x
Categorizing your boards make your Pinterest profile a lot more attractive. I, for one, prefer following people who have organized boards and interesting Pinterest profiles. 🙂
i actually just started using pinterest ang hoping i could use it as a pletform for my blogs but i am not that familiar with it yet but thanks to your information it’ll be really helpful
Hi Rebecca,
Congrats on your blog, welcome to the blogger world and Pinterest as well. I would recommend you dont DIY, grab a roadmap and run with it. that way you get to your desired results faster. You can check out the Ultimate Pinterest roadmap at Juleskalpauli.com/pitanstic
Hope that helps 🙂
Thank you for this post! I see so many people focusing on monthly viewers but failing to think about what itis they want to get out of Pinterest. And while a high monthly viewer number is nice, if you get this and no click throughs then you are definitely doing something wrong!!
I am not that much familiar on what to do on my Pinterest so this is a greatread for me. Thanks so much this!
I have been trying to figure out pinterest for the past few months and it was just overwhelming. I couldn’t keep up. I’m going to give a stab again and these tips will definitely make that easier. Thanks for having done the research for strugglers like me.
Kisha,
When you want to teach a young one in your family anything what do you do?
I would find a resource, Book, course, or teacher to show me how. Dont DIY your success. Right here on this platform we share some great respources for Pinterest Domination. There are more out there willing to share. I say Chose your hard! 🙂

I’m currently working on upping my Pinterest game. Haha, slowly but steadily. Getting to that 70/30 ratio is what I’m working towards now!
I agree with you about joining tailwind at point #2. And I have been using tailwind for couple weeks now, great tool. Thank you for sharing this.
You are most welcome Abu glad Tailwind works for you! 🙂
My pinterest is exactly what you said – full of pins from other people and rarely from my own blog. I have to do my best to do a major revamp on my Pinterest account!
Oooh this is really useful information – thank you! I am clueless about Pinterest so this has really helped!
Pinterest is a game changer for small business owners, it’s such a great tool to reach clients. I’ve heard that people use it like Google now to look for specific items or business. I love Pinterest for reaching clients!
Nina
Pinterest is a Game changer for sure!
We have been using Pinterest for search for 3 years now, Google has nothing on it. Apart from dominating the SERPS stage 😉
Excellent article! Thank you for sharing! As a recipe blogger I was unsure of using rich pins-why would I “give away” my recipe without the click to my blog? But I am a Pinterest USER as well, and in my personal experience I find the rich pins to be more attractive, helpful and trustworthy as a consumer instead of seeing a pin with very little info. I feel like if a user enjoys the preview of my recipe they will click and find out how to put it all together anyways. So, I am a huge fan of using rich pins! As you say, it’s all about what benefits your audience and how you can best serve their needs.
Thanks for sharing your insights with us Megan and We agree with you 100% Glad Rich Pins are a great help to you brand as well 🙂 We love them!
This is really great advice. I just started using Pinterest for my blog and have been researching ways to boost it. This post helped me a lot!
In the beginning, Pinterest is a bit overwhelming. Once we start to pin and just post quality content on there, Pinterest will work in your favor. I would even say that out of all of the social platforms, Pinterest is VERY underrated!
I used to think monthly viewers really matter until I realized it’s the engagement that truly matters. Thanks for reminding me and sharing.
Happy to serve and remind Joseph 🙂
? The 70/30 ratio sounds feasible.
In my case, I have a Pinterest board for sharing my own content and a separate Pinterest board for sharing other people’s content.
Giving has always been the fastest way to receiving. Two sides of the same coin. We are here to serve others and for that to happen we must focus on what we offer at least 70% of the time! Awesome to hear from you Renard! 🙂
