Pinterest Guidelines 2020 announcement. Is Pinterest Confusing Pinners with a conflicting Pinterest Best Practices Update. Will More Accounts be Banned?
Did you catch the Pinterest guidelines 2020?
Are you as confused about the pinterest best practice guidelines as most are? Are you also confused as to Pinterest’s Aims and Warnings as most avid pinterest users are?
On 11/02/2020 Pinterest’ Lucy Matthews delivered their new marketing guidance alongside Tailwind’s Alisa Meredith in a live broadcast.
This follows more and more pinners wondering why their Impressions and Traffic are tanking day after day, despite pinning as directed by “Pinterest Coaches” etc.?
For Instance despite pinning at least 40 fresh pins a day and other people’s content our Impressions dropped to sub 70K, ouchiez. ?? Am not even going into Click Throughs…
Remember when I was wondering, that is Pinterest traffic dead? Well I thought the gremlin headache was back…aaarrggg.
Pinterest delivered their new marketing guidelines with Tailwind, tune in.
#1. Top of the Pinterest emphasis is on FRESH CONTENT.
Question is WHAT is considered as Fresh content in Pinterest’s view?
- A New Pin Image is counted as fresh content.
- Test your approach with Descriptions and hashtags, but that will not be considered FRESH content.
- Different background images and Text Overlays, as well as created new images of interest to Pinners must be your new game Plan.
- If you keep sharing same content and images, thats considered spamming and your account could be blocked.
- Pinners repining your content from your website is natural pin action and will not cause you problems. It is what is recommended by Pinterest.
- As you PIN your own content, use as many unique images as possible for each board to avoid being considered a spammer.
- Too many Pinners focus on CURATION of content as opposed to CREATION of content. The latter is recommended by Pinterest as your main focus going forward.
- Saving to the MOST RELEVANT Boards is even more impactful today, with unique images for each.
My View of The Pinterest 2020 Update, with Tailwind Feb 2020
Best practices of sharing fresh, value content will continue to be the trend.
Avoid doing things that may create engagement yet end up blocking your account.. #Spamville.
I think this could mean the downward spiral of “SmartLoops.” Something I found a wee bit confusing considering that you re-sharing your own pins over and over…Which may be considered Spamming in some circles…
Although Tailwind is of the view that SmartLoops will continue to be of use based on “SmartGuide” i.e. checks and balances they have built in the AI to guide you so you dont trip on some best practice rules.
One of these is “Spam Safe Guard” which will give you guidance on potentially spammy action and how to fix that to avoid your Pinterest account being blocked.
They have also added guides on how to stay relevant and create content that is valuable to your target audience. You will see which posts are ready for a re-fresh etc. I think this is a great idea.
And this brings me to 2 things:
#1. Follow me on Pinterest Here to keep up to date with updates
#2. Create your FREE Tailwind account here today. Unless you love carrying the horse and the cart. Or you wish to guess if you are pinning with Pinterest or against their best practice.
And finally, long term, get comfy with balancing out creating fresh content, with repurposing your older content. As well as Curating content less, if you wish to see better results from Pinterest.
Consider Pinterest your long term traffic friend… Just like anything worth having, what you put in is what you get out.
I hope you have got some value from this Update, as well as my take on the extremely brief Pinterest Guidelines 2020.
