Getting Started on Pinterest for Property Developers and Realtors
First and foremost, to promote your business on Pinterest, you need to:
#1. Create or have a business account and verify your website on Pinterest. With this done, you’ll be able to access data, and statistics on how you are doing. You will also be able to utilize rich pins… So, let’s talk about those.
#2. Enable rich pins on your account. Rich Pins are metadata on your Pin that give your visitors a richer experience, which in turn increases engagement on your Pin and related content. This data is usually picked from your Image Alt Tag. So be sure to NAME your image a keyword/s related to your topic/niche.
We, always name our Pinterest images our long-tailed keyword as the Alt tag.
Be sure to create a separate description for your Pin. This means you are properly using the alt tag also for your visually impaired visitors as well as Smart SEO.
If you have a property for sale and create a Pin that lists its benefits, all the highlights, and Square footage and the other data will be searchable. Take photos of the unique features of the property and Pin them on Pinterest. A pool, Beautiful bathrooms, kitchens, tiles, etc.
This is great for the savvy realtor who is looking for a quick and easy turnaround. Or the experienced developer interested in off-plan sales.
Now, you can also use Product Pins: these allow you to list the price, description of the property and more attributes your future buyer needs to know before purchase.
Guess what? Whenever you update the price on the listing, all pins will update as well, sweet!
Go ahead and create vision-type boards for the type of clients you want to attract within your geo-local area.

If you are a content creator on your website and have a blog, it is advisable that you:
#3. Add a pin-it button to your website. This makes it much easier for your visitors to share your content to Pinterest as well. And it’s as easy as using a plugin like Social Pug plugin.
To keep this episode easy, for the complete beginner who needs to create a business account on Pinterest from scratch, you might like to visit my Pinterest Playlist. for a deeper dive or better still get into the Pinterest Growth Academy and build like the pro you are.
You don’t have to show your Pinterest Image on your website. Rather, you can hide it because the Pin It button actually pulls the right Pin image from your site. Also, you can use Social Pug now “Grow by Mediavine” to hide your Pinterest images, and optimizilla to shrink the file size of your images before you upload them to your site.
#4. Clean up Your Pinterest Boards if you already use it, yet aren’t seeing results. Optimise your descriptions, for both pin images and the boards. Use a mix of commercial keywords and emotional keywords. ♥
And just so you are best prepared, these are the Common Pinterest Mistakes you must avoid.
#5. Do Not Carry the donkey, you are a busy developer or realtor so Automate your Pinterest efforts with a resource that also gives you awesome analytics on how you are performing way better than Pinterest itself, try Tailwind out for free.
Are You a Long-Haul Developer or a Flipper?
Pinterest is a long-term game so you are either in it for the long haul, or don’t get started at all. You do know Who you are selling to, yes?
If NO, start to get to know your audience by using questions on your other social platforms. Polls are a great way to do this. Then…
Answer your Audience’s Questions Via your Content & Pinterest Images
Answer your Audience’s Questions Via your Content & Pinterest Images
I encourage you to create pillar posts with no less than 2500+ words. These will give your target audience information on real estate, property development, interior design, and maintenance.
You will showcase your expertise and also emphasize multiple elements of your trade with multiple Pin images.
To answer questions that matter to your audience, use Social Media polls to uncover their pain points and interests. You can also use the Pinterest search option and Pinterest trends to create content that inspires and attracts more clicks.
For instance, you can create a Pin image centered around “the easiest way to sell a tiny studio flat in a lower-end neighbourhood”.
Here’s the thing, the above is not the title of your post; about selling high ticket property. Nor it is the point of the post. Rather the question is answered in the post, so you design a Pinterest image for it.
Your Pins Must Reflect Your Brand Ethos:
How?
I know your brand colors may be dark, greys, black, navy blue, etc. Yet, you must find a way to use bright colours with your Pinterest images. As I stated in this video, Pinterest is like a girl, she loves bright primary colours.
Use a font that is bold and be consistent in using that font on your pin images, preferably the font used in your branding.
Add white space to your photos in order to add text overlays that stand out.
Repurpose your Instagram Images, Stories, Videos for Pinterest.
Yes, I know you are on IG and believe it’s the bombdigity, but lately it’s not doing your business much good is it? Unless you are a macro influencer… ?
I imagine you use IG stories to showcase your properties, interiors, selling points, captioning, etc? Well, share those on Pinterest video and serve your audience on that platform too, while also saving yourself time.
By the way if you wish to know my views on Pinterest Vs IG for marketing you are in for a treat.
Go ahead and build relationships and communicate with potential customers via your content. As a property developer you know a ton about interior décor as well yes? As a realtor you know how to dress a property for sale… ♥
So, answer people’s questions on: colours, wall decorative pieces, tiles, furniture, wallpaper, and art pieces that will grab people’s attention and which they can now find in your Pinterest boards. You dot have to carry the donkey with all this content creation…Hire a pro to do the work.
It's all about giving in today’s market. So, give more information.
It’s all about giving in today’s market. So, give more information. Use the 3Es;
- Empower
- Educate
- Entertain
In your Pinterest, or any other social media platform to be honest. This is what leads to selling more property in the long run.
You may actually find it very useful to create an interior design board and give tips on how your real estate buyers/renters can re-decorate their new home.
They can consult you on this post-sale. You can collaborate with interior designers on this aspect of your business. So, creating a Group Board may be the best way to do this.
Are you Indexed on Google and Pinterest as a Property Developer or Realtor?
Did you know you can be indexed on Google via Pinterest?
Be sure to brand your profile with your brand name and definitely Add your Location.
In your settings, you can specify your location, and be sure to add it o your profile description. This allows your audience to know where you are located as soon as they look at your profile.
You want to use commercial keywords in 3 specific places –
- your profile
- the board names – try to add your location to your boards and pin descriptions
- and pin descriptions
Remember, Pinterest prefers really great 2:3 images. Although it now is open to Instagram sized images and widescreen videos. You can use images you took or create amazing branded images free with Canva.
Add your keywords as text overlay to communicate what pinners are looking for.
To know what people are looking for, use the Pinterest search bar, type your location + your niche, and see if there are people searching for and pinning that type of content.
All these simple actions lead to one amazing result, you get to attract traffic from both Pinterest – short and long term and Google – long term. How?
Well, SEO optimized images, and content can and do generate traffic from Google. Your images could show up under the google “Image tab”.
See, when you pin your images, and people love your content, they repin them and share. Pinterest picks up these actions; how people respond to your pins to inform them as to what topic your pin is associated with.
That data allows them to rank your pin higher in Pinterest search.
Google picks this up too and leverages that in most relevant search results. #Boom.
I use Google search like I am looking for something in normal life, this gives me so much data on what content I can create and thus how it will be consumed too.
You do the same and go use Pinterest as your very own Secret SEO sauce leaving other property developers and realtors in your dust.
In everything Track, so check your Pinterest and Google Analytics to see how well you are doing. Don’t be surprised if Pinterest becomes your top traffic source in 3-6 months of consistent implementation.
And one final tip…
Use the Pinterest Ads Platform – Promoted Pins
Once you have got things going and are attracting your target audience, it’s time to scale, and the best way to scale is to advertise.
Pinterest’s promoted pins platform will deliver a ton of targeted traffic to your offers, If you have dialed in Who you serve and their location. You literally can run a promoted pin ad by postcode (UK) or Zipcode.
