Okay now Syl, what are these Promoted Pins and How do I create one? Do I need a promoted pins strategy? I am part of this Facebook group and all they talk about are promoted pins, I am kinda lost in translation…This was my friend, let’s call them Karen in a state of confusion!

Before the Promoted Pins Strategy: A little Backstory
Circa 2013, I had no business, no job, frustrated, angry at life in general and felt like a failure. The recession seemed to have sucked out and taken off with my career!
Of course, I had no website, no audience, wasn’t social media savvy, no podcast, no email list. I definitely didn’t know how to be a YouTuber and Pinterest what? In my mind, I had nothing that I even appreciated. I only had my hubby and rock Paul, my children who were terrified of me…Who would they meet after school? Loving mom or the frustrated angry woman?
Now I’m an Amazon Author of entrepreneurial non-fiction, I have two blogs and a brand both off and online that impacts masses globally. My book “The Art of Pinterest Profits” has had over 4000 downloads, and I’m a home business creative entrepreneur and international speaker. And there is another book in the offing! Should be out in the Fall!

Yes, you need to choose an online platform that you feel comfortable with, but you also need to know how to get it in front of the right audience!
There are short-term techniques for those who want to just have a follower base on pinterest and may be even boost immediate sales. But for the serious entrepreneur and blogger, the focus should be on some Pinterest Ads for more targeted traffic, optins and sales.

A Promoted Pins Strategy – The Basics
In this episode, I show you how to set up your promoted pin ad with the new Pinterest Ads Platform updates. You will literally be looking over my shoulder as I set up one and then you can go do the same.
This should be part of your social media marketing strategy.
What can you do to build your Pinterest assets to attract the most traffic and clicks? The answer is Promoted pins!
I show you how to take $5, $10 or whatever your ad budget is at a time and get a ton of engagement.

Pinterest Ads Tutorial – How to Set Up Your First Pinterest Ads Campaign

After the pinterest ads tutorial above, I am sure you know how to set-up your first Pinterest Ads Traffic Campaign. We have gone through everything:
- Setting up your Pinterest ads account.
- Setting up billing.
- Creating an audience.
- Interest targeting, location targeting,
- Picking your pin image pin for promotion.
- Campaign tracking.
- Keyword targeting, language targeting, and
- Setting your bid or cost per click (CPC).
You simply just have to take the plunge, create 2 Pin images, for AB testing, Bin the one that under performs and see your traffic skyrocket!
You have learnt that like Facebook ads, you can target users interest for your promoted pins.
Yet your bung goes much further and this is where the search engine optimization trumps Facebook marketing. You can target users on Pinterest based on keywords.
Of course, you can create different ad campaigns. There are campaigns to bid for brand visibility, impressions, increase engagement on your pins. You can get more pinners to click, share and save your pin, and traffic campaigns. This in turn should drive more traffic directly to your website and offers. Leading to more opt-ins and sales!

Promoted Pins Strategy – What NOT To Do!
#1. You want a really High Def Low Text image. So, NO Call to Action in there. This is your Carrot, the First Course. This is when your IMAGE WOW’s your audience. Attention Grabbing is the word. And word to the wise, that CTA will deter the approval of your Ad. Use less blatant text like: “My 5 tips to better SEO” and point/direct the Pin URL to your resource, worksheet or downloadable!

#2. Do NOT use tiny, square or horizontal images for your Promoted pin! I mean come on, Pinterest has a specific image size that you can see all Top Pins using. Follow the eyeballs. Long, vertical, high def, colourful images are the norm here. Infographs work a treat on Pinterest!
Even if your Promoted Pin Ad is approved, the Pinners will not engage with your pin image as much. AND, despite using them on other pins, Please DO NOT Use #Hashtags on your Promoted Pin Ad image. That will reduce your campaign’s impact. Hashtags are now more or less considered spammy on Pinterest! So unlike Instagram, hashtags don’t do much for your Pin!
#3. Well I see it a lot, people with whole pins leading directly to their sales page. WHEN will you build that list already? You typically want to get your visitors’ information so you can build the: Know, Like and Trust factor, kapische?
So, go and change out those pins pointing to a sales or landing page and link to your blog, products or about page that shares more information about your value proposition. You want to give your audience the “choice to Optin and Buy”. Conversion baby! ?

In the same breath, Do NOT use URL redirects on your Pin Image for your advert! Or on any Pin for that matter. You know like URL shorteners! Your Promoted Pin Ad will not be approved! Think User experience, think fast loading DIRECT link to the content you are wanting them to see. Pinterest prefers that!
