Now, let’s get into it
New Pinterest Traffic SEO hacks 2021
#1. A Rose by any Other Name: A lot of people make the mistake of just adding their name to their profile and that’s it. How about you add a couple of your “commercial keywords” to your name! To get those keywords, simply type your industry into Google.
Look at the top 3 pieces of content that show up. Check the keywords they use; these guys have spent $$ to get to page #1. You could use Keywords everywhere Keyword Tool to help you out on that faster.
Now grab 1-2 top commercial keywords and add them to your profile name like in the image below.
So, I wanted to be found by anyone looking for social media management. I also included my business name “Kalungi Group”, because I want my profile to show up for people searching for that too.
Why this is so good for your business?
Because on Pinterest, when people search for a keyword, sticking to Social media management, they usually also search for people who are pinning about Social Media Management. And the people who show up in the results are the people that have either Social media management or social media manager in the title of their name.
So, my content, actually my Social media management for Dummies book is a top search result because I am using those keyword phrases in the name of my account. Now I’m, going to show you how to do this very very easily in more tips below.
New Pinterest SEO #2
Who Knows About You? Optimize your Profile about section. Your Pinterest about section like your name is totally searchable. So you want to make sure that you have keywords and keyword phrases inside of your about section. As shown in image #1 above I added “Social media tips” and “Pinterest expert tips” in my profile as searchable keywords.
I do recommend you share something of value and tell people what they’re going to get from following your account, add in a call to action too.
#3 New Pinterest SEO 2021- Tidy your Filing Cabinets
In other words, optimize your Boards. We all know your boards are your digital Filing Cabinets, so giving them the right name, keeping them neat, well labeled and laid out is how you Optimize them for ease of finding by pinners.
Make sure that your boards have names/titles that are super relevant to what you do. That way when people are searching for boards specific to your keywords, they will find yours, esp. if you pin relevant content regularly.
“Your board title is definitely searchable, make it a relevant commercial keyword.”
Once again, I am emphasizing commercial keywords, and here is another hack to find commercial keywords:
Head on to Amazon and type in your product/service. If it is sold on there, you will see various phrases used to describe it. Create a doc of those words for use on your content.
Why commercial keywords? Because they make bank, unlike “emotional keywords” which may or may not evoke a buying decision. And you don’t need hundreds or even tens of thousands of followers. You only need to take the right ACTIONS.
To optimize your boards, click on the pencil Icon when you hover on a board and add your relevant keywords, save and job done!
This means your board descriptions should include your long tailed keywords as defined in our White Hat SEO episode. With keyword friendly descriptions, your boards become more searchable. Tell people what the board is about and you can use your emotional keywords here. You don't need hundreds or even tens of thousands of followers. You only need to take the right ACTIONS.
New Pinterest SEO Strategy #4
Your Pin Image Name/Title – You have the chance to give every single pin its own title. That too is searchable, so ensure it’s relevant to what people are searching for.
I use my book, product, or content title as the pin image title.
So, you can see for my latest release an International #1 bestselling book here that the title is literally what the pin content is about. I do that on purpose so that I can make sure that they’re all connected.
By the way, you can edit any pin title, esp. older pins that are performing well, that didn’t have the Title option super-specific pre-2019.
Observation: By the way using the same image with different titles, or changing images and using different titles to the same content now simply doesn’t drive as much traffic as it used to.
Back to your pin image, a great title will not deliver if the description lets it down and the content is fluff. So, add keywords that you really want to be found for inside your description, that’s why I recommended before that you create a document of the various keywords while doing research for your content/products.
If you haven’t already read our original episode on Pinterest SEO and rank in search, go ahead and read it because it breaks this down for you in full detail.
If you look at image #3 above, it has been pinned over 41,000 times and that’s because it’s being found on Pinterest and every time it gets found and that person likes it, they share it, and so on…
You want that and more, more traffic to your website, funnels, products, eComm store, etc.
Not only does your brand exposure increase, but your followers also.
Along with your clicks, lead-flow, and sales or whatever your end goal would be.
Pro Pinterest SEO Hack #5
Now, here’s, what you do to make sure that you are getting these descriptions nailed down.
What I do is, I go into my ads manager, and act like I am creating a campaign.
I use the Pinterest keyword tool to look for at least 3-5 keywords per content/promo that is related to what am promoting or content I would be sharing. When I try for instance: Graphic design, I look at the search volume: over 3 million monthly searches. Also, social media tips, social media, and blogging, social media post ideas all have 5+ million monthly searches.
So, I use each of those words in different content pieces, products/services, and book promos inside the Pin description and Image Alt tags.
By adding those heavy volume keywords, search phrases to my pin description it helps my content to be found higher in the search results?
I recommend that the old Cross-promotion is not used at the time of publishing.
Because Pinterest doesn’t give the rest of your pins as much exposure lately if you use the same description with a different image, etc. So, I recommend you pin only 2-3 varying images for a given piece of content and don’t repin the same until 3-4 weeks after.
Instead, resurrect older content with new images and see how they perform.
Pinterest SEO hacks #6 – Let’s Do Video
Yes, Pinterest got in on the video bandwagon and if you aren’t using a video pin for each of your pieces of content, you are missing out on Traffic.
So, for every blog post, book, product, service, create a video pin. You can create these via a Free Canva account very easily.
What I have learned to do is create simple eBooks with this tool here and build my list by giving them away as lead magnets, which leads to more sales via Pinterest.
Video pins are found a little bit differently and they rank entirely differently and right now they are hot on Pinterest.
Even if you simply turn your image into a 10 second Gif, it is counted as a video on Pinterest and will receive way higher hits and impressions than a static image pin. You can see from some of my images above which ones are video pins and which are static image pins for my Book.
Also, make sure that you are using the newest Pinterest features. Because if you do, you’re going to be able to dominate and get desired traffic. So, make sure that you’re creating stories, using video pins, create carousels, don’t over repin the same content over and over. Get your titles and descriptions optimized.
Do you know when you pin a piece of content and use say 3 different images? Then one image outperforms all the others. Usually, it’s because you may have used various, precise keywords that people are searching for.
For instance, for my book, I used: free social media marketing strategy, social media for dummies, social media management for beginners, in other words, a combination of Keywords and 2 hashtags.
So, what I do is; 2-3 pin images max per content/product with keywords, phrases, and hashtags. This has been working really well for us. We’re getting way more traffic to our site, more impressions, and desired results. I highly encourage you to test this strategy out, make sure that you research your keywords. hem so that they are as relevant as possible and then edit.
