An Update to Facebook Page Posts and News Feed: What it Means for Your Business
Hey This is a quick update for all who haven’t heard….Well Facebook is at it again, making changes to the Facebook Page Posts and Newsfeed post rules and algorithm. Frankly I am on the fence on what it could do for our business so do me a favour, Post a comment below as to Why & How you think it will affect HBOs, your business in particular and how you run your FB Marketing campaigns! What this could mean for Organic Lead Generation is huge. It also means Facebook is putting their foot down on use of Fan Pages to promote our businesses and how we do it, and the reach of our posts. This is already squeezed to single digits for most fan pages unless one knuckles down and shares far & wide. Facebook Marketing is becoming more a paid activity if you want to generate any consistent and good number of leads… and know how to maximize those ads to actually get what you need from them! If you are serious about your business you already have a Facebook fan page and if you don’t well, you might consider seriously creating one as already Facebook can behind the scenes change your Personal Profile into a Fan page without notifying you if all you do is post business links & updates!also read about the best way to Post on a Fan Page here
Facebook Page posts Changes, My two pence:
In my opinion though, Facebook claims that the changes are about user experience, I am a user & i think they are way out there!!! Most people I know (Me inclusive) never bought it before and wont by it today! Before Facebook went public it let people’s actions and interests dictate what they see. If people didn’t like something, that person or page would naturally fall off the newsfeed. If Facebook really cared about the user experience, it would go back to that format. Instead, it has purposely choked the organic Reach of Page posts & fan pages…which in turn puts pressure on fan pages owners to pay for Reach…which in turn makes the average user feel like there’s more junk in their feed. Don’t get me wrong, I too would like to see less of the spammy posts, but this to me is like stealing from users who drove all the traffic through their Facebook Page posts in the beginning. Think about the you or any other business running a magazine ad, a classified or even TV ad and inviting your audience to like your pages. Only to have to pay again once they get on FB. does this sound like a good business strategy? well not to me esp. in RIO…
But and this is what confuses me on the proposed changes, does it make sense to anyone that Facebook charges you to run a “likes” campaign to build your fan base and then turns around and backhandedly asks you to pay again to reach the same fan base who “liked” your page? And what exactly did they mean by this update and I quote:
“Pages still matter — a lot. They offer a free, easy-to-maintain online presence for people to discover and learn about a business. They work across desktop, mobile and tablets without requiring any extra configuration, and contain complete information about a business. They also offer tools to create videos, photos and events that bring a business’ story to life.”
You may ask, what’s left that’s free on Facebook Page posts or Newsfeed posts for a network marketer or Home business owner? In my view and I could be wrong, there aren’t many free, easy to maintain online promotional strategies left with all the recent Facebook page post and news feed changes, and Ann Smarty in this article agrees with me! As a Facebook Fan Page owner looking to build a brand and be profitable, I am focused on the following and so should you:
• Interacting Daily with our Fans on the Page
• Run a Facebook Page Post Engagement Ad consistently (this is not a must f your budget is tight)
• Deliver daily, valuable content 4 times a day.
• Run a Facebook “likes” Ad
But hey am not ranting just sharing my thoughts so what do you think??? Read the Facebook Page Posts Update Verbatim Here…
Facebook Page Posts Updates, what it will mean
Facebook says that it has surveyed it’s users and has come to the conclusion that the content they don’t like seeing in their news feed are promotional posts that are not driven from Facebook Ads. This means as a Fan Page owner you typed a promotional status update and it’s showing up in the news feed of your fans organically, and this allegedly is what your fans don’t like! Facebook is not really referencing promotional page post engagement ads because they controls the number of times a user you target will see the ad. They base the reach on engagement, and so may even hide your ad….
Below is what Facebook considers a promotional post:
1. Posts that solely push people to buy a product or install an app
2. Posts that push people to enter promotions and sweepstakes with no real context
3. Posts that reuse the exact same content from ads
Examples of these types of Facebook Page posts:
Like I said at the beginning these changes to Facebook marketing and business on Facebook will make it that much harder for those without the know how to even get a few organic/free leads off of Facebook via newsfeed or Fan page posts! So small business pages will have to be boosted more and promoted more via Paid ads to make any impact! This could impact negatively on them and FB could loose a few Small Businesses and HBOs but hey this is just my opinion and I hope to be proved wrong.
